Another crisis, another political football

Not to Waste Another Crisis By Ramblin’ Rose Following yet another mass shooting, the blame game flourishes. Leftists blame the guns; patriots point to the shooter. Outspoken American radio host, author, activist, and conservative political candidate Wayne Allyn Root penned an article that contains his views and reflects those of many others—usually not presented by media pundits but shared in private conversations. Both sides agree that mass shootings are a tragedy. Here’s a summarization of his points about our deeply divided nation while adding my comments and questions. “Gun Free Zones” invite madmen to walk in and start shooting. How many of these shootings have occurred in churches, schools, movie theaters and supermarkets located in “gun free zones?” The shooters may be deranged and mentally it, but they are not stupid. How often does a “good guy” with or without a firearm step in and neutralize the assailant? Reportedly, an off-duty border patrol officer used his barber’s sh

Criticizing Kamala Harris's gun control speech

Image
Everyone knows that Kamala Harris is terrible when it comes to public speaking. At least Joe Biden has the excuse that he's old and likely suffering from dementia. Kamala can't claim that she's getting old. While attending the funeral of Ruth Whitfield, 86, who was killed in a supermarket in Buffalo on May 14, Harris said "Everybody's got to stand up and agree that this should not be happening in our country and that we should have the courage to do something about it." Then she "added that the solution was clear and included things like background checks and an assault weapons ban." As California's former AG, Harris knows that banning an entire class of weapons is forbidden. In the Supreme Court's DC v. Heller ruling , one finding of fact is that "the District’s total ban on handgun possession in the home amounts to a prohibition on an entire class of "arms" that Americans overwhelmingly choose for the lawful purpose of self

The devil went down to Georgia

Image
In 1979, the Charlie Daniels Band introduced their hit song The Devil Went Down to Georgia.' It instantly shot up the charts. In 2021, a different 'devil' went down to Georgia. His name is Joe Biden and he came loaded with tons of disinformation about Georgia's new election reform law. As Katie Pavlich wrote in this Townhall article , Biden wasn't alone in lying about the new Georgia law. Woke corporations like Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola jumped into the fight. Major League Baseball pulled its All-Star Game out of Atlanta because Rob Manfred, MLB's commissioner, went woke, too. Stacey Abrams, the loser who still hasn't admitted she lost the 2018 gubernatorial election, insisted that the voting reform law would suppress the vote. She said "#SB202 suppresses voters, criminalizes compassion and represents a massive power grab of election authority from local and state officials. #gapol. In my 11 years in the legislature, I never saw a bill approved at suc

The DFL's tax cut mistake

Image
Though DFL legislators reached agreement with GOP senators on a tax cut package , they didn't get it passed. The DFL failed Minnesota voters who are getting hit with high gas prices, high grocery prices and high rents and mortgage payments. Simply put, the DFL's priorities aren't Minnesota families' priorities. First, Rep. Paul Marquardt, DFL, the chair of the House Taxes Committee, said "This is an historic tax bill. We have in this bill the largest tax cuts in the history of this state and it’s going to positively impact in a real and meaningful way families and senior citizens and businesses across the state." What a pile of BS. They dropped the marginal tax rate on the lowest bracket from 5.35% to 5.10%. That isn't "historic." That's microscopic. The DFL didn't get the bill across the finish line because they insisted on spending $4,000,000,000 on education. They insisted on that even though the education budget bill was passed last y

Is Uvalde a call to action?

Image
Watching Fox News @ Night last night, I heard Kevin Walling, a moderate-sounding Biden campaign surrogate, repeat that what's needed as a result of the Robb Elementary shooting is "action." He isn't the only Democrat repeating that chanting point. That's something that virtually every Democrat has said since the shooting happened. It's a fresher-sounding way of another Democrat saying. During Clinton's time in office, Democrats would say "Surely, we must do something." That sounds right but what's the right action. Unfortunately for Democrats, finding solutions requires thinking and thorough fact-gathering. In Uvalde, we aren't close to finishing the fact-gathering. What's most disgusting is that Democrats apparently want the issue, not the solution. Barack Obama posted a tweet intended to stir up turmoil rather than work towards a solution. In the tweet, Obama wrote "As we grieve the children of Uvalde today, we should take tim

Stacey Abrams vs Beto O'Rourke

Image
Rumor has it that Stacey Abrams called Beto O'Rourke yesterday to determine who has the best shot at winning in November. Rumor has it that Abrams claimed she has the better shot because she said that Georgia is the worst state in which to live . Rumor has it that O'Rourke claims he's got a better shot at winning because he got tons of free publicity by interrupting Gov. Abbott's news conference following the school shooting in Uvalde, TX. Rather than offer an opinion, I'll just let you decide. Here's Abrams making an ass out of herself this weekend: Here's Beto's ill-advised interruption: What a clown show. Democrats will claim that Georgia is a purple state and that they'll turn Texas blue this fall. With idiots like these at the top of the ticket, that's more pipe dream than aspiration.

Democrats' Jim Crow 2.0 problem

Image
Remember Joe Biden's attack on the Georgia voting rights bill as being "Jim Crow 2.0"? In March, 2021, he said "Republicans in [Georgia] rushed through an un-American law to deny people the right to vote. This law, like so many others being pursued by Republicans in statehouses across the country, is a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience." Later, he said "Jim Crow 2.0 is about two insidious things: voter suppression and election subversion. It’s no longer about who gets to vote; it’s about making it harder to vote." Biden said these things about the "Election Integrity Act of 2021." Thus far, Biden's predictions about the Election Integrity Act of 2021 have been as accurate as Mark Milley's predictions about the Taliban in Afghanistan and how long it would take Russia to capture Kyiv. Biden's prediction of voter suppression in Georgia is ridiculous. It's proof of his dishonesty and his fear-mongering. This

Kurt Daudt's end-of-session statement

Image
Kurt Daudt didn't mince words in summarizing this session. In this statement , Daudt accused the DFL House majority of putting a higher priority on the state budget than they put on families' budgets. That's inexcusable. Specifically, Daudt wrote "House Democrats failed Minnesotans this session by failing to address our public safety crisis, and doing nothing to put money back in the pockets of families who are struggling with record inflation and skyrocketing gas prices in the Biden-Walz economy." Republicans wanted to drop the marginal tax rate for the bottom bracket from 5.35% to 2.8%. The DFL wouldn't budge from their proposal of dropping that tax rate to 5.10%. That isn't a tax cut. That's an insult to Minnesota's families. Republicans should emphatically emphasize the fact that the DFL put a higher priority on the government's budget than it put on families' budgets. Minnesota's highest priority is with their families' budget.

Joe Biden's gas price crisis

Image
Joe Biden has a bunch of crises to deal with. Each is of his own creation. The border crisis is Biden's creation. It was stable under President Trump. Biden intentionally de-stabilized the border. The inflation crisis is Biden's creation. (Throw in an honorable mention to all the Democrats who voted for the massive spending bills.) Throw in the baby formula crisis, which started with Abbott, then metastasized when the FDA ignored the problem until it turned into a crisis. Inflation is a crisis that's the biggest  problem in the nation. Whether you're in the desert southwest, the Pacific Northwest, the Plains States the Upper Midwest, the Great Lakes States, the Rust Belt, New England, the Bible Belt or the eastern seaboard, inflation is a crisis. In California, inflated gas prices are a crisis . In California, gas prices rose 19 cents a gallon last week to  bring the statewide average above $6.00: Gasoline prices statewide surged 19 cents in one week to top $6 a gallon

Scott Jensen vs. Ken Martin, Javier Morillo COVID extremism edition

Ken Martin has a script and he's sticking to it. It doesn't have anything to do with the truth but it's got a lot in common with digging the DFL out of a hole. In his interview with Almanac's Mary Lahammer, Martin's dishonesty shined through. In the interview, Martin said about Dr. Jensen "...some of his positions, particularly around COVID, some of the conspiracy theories that he's glommed onto just aren't supported by people even in his medical profession." Let's put that up against what Dr. Jensen said in his interview with Lahammer. In that interview, Dr. Jensen said that he hasn't gotten the vaccine because he got infected with COVID before the vaccines were approved. Dr. Jensen then said that he has more antibodies than his patients who got their antibodies from a vaccine. Finally, Dr. Jensen said that he gets his antibodies checked every other month. If this race comes down to a fight on COVID credibility, crime and taxes, which I th

Bidenflation: the portrait of failure

Image
Larry Kudlow let Joe Biden have it Thursday during his opening riff . In the riff, Kudlow said "Take a look… 'Joe's Train Wreck' — 'gas hits a brutal $6 a gallon, border crisis gets worse, ministry of truth collapses, market drops 1,164 points — worst day in two years, baby formula disaster.'" The only thing the Post missed was that the cavalry is coming because of Mr. Biden's train wreck and I want to generalize about this train wreck because in policy terms, it shows the complete breakdown and failure of the radical Left, progressive agenda or, as Newt Gingrich calls it, 'big government socialism.'" If you wanted to demolish the U.S. of Hamilton, Jefferson and Madison, you'd do what Biden is doing. Biden is the opposite of these great statesmen. They believed in letting individuals defend themselves, speak for themselves and deal fairly with their fellow citizens. Equal justice under the law is a lofty goal. It's an aspirational

Joe Biden's Jim Crow 2.0 claims are shattered

Image
When Georgia passed its election reforms shortly after Joe Biden took office, Biden said the reforms were like the types of election laws during the Jim Crow Era. He called the new law "Jim Crow 2.0", then said that the new law amounted to voter suppression. Predictably, Biden's yapping is just a bunch of hot air. According to this report , early voting is going through the roof in Georgia: "The record early voting turnout is a testament to the security of the voting system and the hard work of our county election officials," Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said of the numbers Wednesday. "As Secretary of State, I promised to strike a strong balance between access and security in our elections, and these numbers demonstrate that I kept that promise and that voters have confidence in Georgia’s elections." Georgia has seen 539,297 people cast ballots as of Tuesday, far outpacing the 182,684 by this point in the 2018 midterm primary elections

The stories behind the Biden administration baby formula shortage

Image
Thus far, the reporting on the Biden administration's lackluster response to the baby food shortage has been, at a minimum, disappointing. Actually, there are multiple stories worthy of reporting. This Yahoo article  focuses on what the federal government will finally do now that there's a crisis. The reason why this administration's polling is in the toilet is because this administration doesn't notice problems until a real-life problem turns into a political problem. At that point, this administration jumps into action with an all-hands-on-deck half-the-hands-on-deck approach. Like with the Russian invasion into Ukraine, the Biden administration is a month late. This administration gives procrastination look good. This administration moves so slow that procrastinators look fast. This paragraph illustrates the problem perfectly: FDA Commissioner Robert Califf provided no details, but President Joe Biden said last week he was working to allow more formula to come in fr

Scott Jensen's fast post-convention start

Image
On Saturday, Scott Jensen won the Republican Party of Minnesota's endorsement to be their candidate for governor this November against DFL Gov. Tim Walz. It took 9 ballots to finally secure the 60% required for winning the endorsement. While that's a ton of ballots to secure the victory, it's well worth it for Jensen in the sense that this essentially ends the GOP race for governor. While it's still legal to primary Dr. Jensen, that'd be foolish. Rich Stanek supposedly is considering primarying Dr. Jensen. He doesn't stand a chance. What's the rationale for his candidacy? While it's certain he'd be able to raise lots of establishment money, money isn't the key determining factor. Dr. Jensen will have the support of the activists. If Tim Pawlenty can't win a primary, why would Stanek have a legitimate shot at winning? Dr. Jensen needs to do some things to defeat Tim Walz. First, he must win back the suburbs. This is a good year for that becau

Ukraine's successful counteroffensive

Image
Based on recent reports from the Institute for the Study of War, it's clear that the Russian military isn't that frightening . The report states "The Ukrainian destruction of significant elements of a Russian motorized rifle brigade that tried to cross a pontoon bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River on May 11 has shocked prominent Russian milbloggers. Those bloggers have begun commenting on the incompetence of the Russian military to their hundreds of thousands of followers. The attempted river crossing showed a stunning lack of tactical sense as satellite images show (destroyed) Russian vehicles tightly bunched up at both ends of the (destroyed) bridge, clearly allowing Ukrainian artillerymen to kill hundreds and destroy scores of vehicles with concentrated strikes." The report continues, saying "The Ukrainian destruction of significant elements of a Russian motorized rifle brigade that tried to cross a pontoon bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River on May 11 h

John Marty's abortion dishonesty

Image
Saturday afternoon, Minnesota State Sen. John Marty decided to rip the mask off and show his true self about abortion. Sen. Marty decided to post this tweet , which is a lie about what would happen if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Sen. Marty tweeted "Criminalizing abortion isn't Pro-Life; It's Anti-Woman. That's why so many people are fired up; great crowd at the Bans Off Our Bodies Rally today." This is a screenshot of Sen. Marty's tweet: If Roe is overturned by SCOTUS, state legislatures and governors in all 50 states would work together to put a bill together, pass it and have the governor sign it. There are currently 37 states with unified Democrat or Republican state government. The vast majority of those states would pass bills virtually immediately. Some states have passed laws that would go into effect if Roe is overturned. None of those laws would criminalize abortion. This is outright dishonesty: Abortion wasn't invented in 1973 by R

Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, MSM vs. Ian Prior

Image
Ian Prior's op-ed is a stinging indictment against Joe Biden's administration, Nancy Pelosi's goons and Merrick Garland's regime. Prior rips away the façade of impartiality from Garland's DOJ. It's obvious that Garland is a typical Democrat -- if he didn't have double standards, he wouldn't have any standards. Prior's op-ed highlights how Garland acted immediately when the NSBA requested Biden administration protection from the uppity peasants, aka concerned parents. Prior's op-ed also highlights how Garland's DOJ sat on its behind while threatening Democrat mobs invaded the neighborhoods of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts. It didn't matter to Garland, the former chief judge on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, that intimidating judges is a federal crime. It didn't matter to Garland that parents speaking angrily at school board meetings are protected by the First Amendment. Meanwhile, Prior highli

Democrats walk the pro-abortion plank

Image
Yesterday, Sen. Schumer told Senate Democrats to walk the pro-abortion plank. Joe Manchin refused. The other 49 senators willingly walked the plank. Prior to the vote, Sen. Minority Leader McConnell spoke to the American people about what the Democrats' bill did. Here's the transcript to his speech. Sen. McConnell said did a good job explaining why this legislation wouldn't have simply codified Roe when he said "Democrats’ radical bill is as extreme as extreme gets. It ignores modern science. It is tone-deaf to public opinion. "Nothing about their bill merely codifies the current case law on this issue. Their extreme proposal goes way, way beyond codifying the status quo. It would roll back many existing laws. The Democrats' bill would functionally allow elective abortion through all nine months. Abortion until the moment of birth. We are currently one of only seven countries worldwide that allow elective abortion after 20 weeks. We’re there alongside China a

Joe Biden's Department of Injustice

Image
Since we know that Joe Biden is a liar, let's highlight that he isn't interested in keeping his promises. Joe Biden isn't interested in a depoliticized DOJ. Despite there being a federal law on the books that prohibits activists who "picket or parade" with the "intent of interfering with, obstructing or impeding the administration of justice", Biden's DOJ isn't interested in arresting pro-abortion zealots protesting in front of Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Kavanaugh's homes. These pro-abortion zealots are just following Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's lead. Two years ago, Sen. Schumer stood on the Supreme Court's steps when he threatened Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh, saying that they had "released the whirlwind" and that they "would pay the price." Later, Schumer tried walking that back, saying that the words didn't come out the way he'd wanted them to. (Did he want his words to intimi

When Democrats overreach

Image
When's the last time Democrats didn't overreach when they reach a perceived advantage? The answer is that Democrats always  overreach. Democrats always resemble the oft-made dig hurled at late PLO leader Yassir Arafat. It was said that Arafat "never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity." According to Marc Thiessen's latest AEI column , Democrats are about to overreach on Roe v. Wade. In the opening of his article, Thiessen wrote "Democrats seem convinced that if the Supreme Court does in fact overturn Roe v. Wade, the decision would provide them with a political lifeline before the November midterm elections. Americans might disapprove of their performance on crime, immigration, inflation, the economy and national security, but when it comes to abortion, Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) says Republicans are 'on the wrong side of history and on the wrong side of the American people.' Don’t be so sure. If the court’s conservative majority does s

Unite Cloud's vendetta continues

Image
Dividing St. Cloud Unite Cloud's vendetta against former Councilman Jeff Johnson apparently hasn't stopped. It's apparent from this statement that Unite Cloud isn't in the habit of letting go of a grudge. What's gotten Unite Cloud into full hate mode is the fact that Councilman Johnson is a finalist to become the "Dean of Trades and Industry at SCTCC (St. Cloud Technical and Community College)." The justification for the haters at Unite Cloud to oppose former Councilman Johnson's hiring as "Dean of Trades and Industry" is stated in Unite Cloud's statement. According to Unite Cloud, "Having a Dean who has negative attitudes toward refugees will inhibit the diverse student body at SCTCC from feeling safe and welcomed at their school, as this position’s requirements include to 'oversee the instructional needs of students' and to ;represent the college on designated planning committees such as program advisory, Higher Learning

Where's Joe Biden's bullish economy?

Image
Weekly, if not more often, Joe Biden or Jen Psaki tell people that the Biden economy is bullish. When Barack Obama returned to the White House, he replied to a reporter who asked about the midterm election that Democrats have a great story to tell, that they just have to tell it to the people. That's entirely spin but it's all that Democrats have at this point. It's difficult to con people into believing that the economy is great when there's a baby formula shortage . It's difficult to con people into thinking that the economy is going gangbusters when diesel fuel prices are high and there's a diesel fuel shortage . Each month, Biden comes out to the podium after that month's jobs report to remind us that 300,000-500,000 jobs were created that month. What Mr. Biden omits from his speech is that there are still millions of jobs that are open. This month, that total is 11,459,000. There are twice as many jobs open as there are people looking for work. That

Joe Biden's point of no return

Image
It's getting pretty annoying hearing pundit after pundit say that there's tons of time until the midterm elections and that anything can still happen. While that's technically true, it isn't a stretch to remember Yogi Berra's famous saying that "Sometimes, it gets late here pretty early." Each time that Biden and his Democrats double down on Build Back Better, the Green New Deal or bailing out rich doctors with student loans, it cements the Democrats' image as being utterly out of touch with America. While Biden's Democrats push student loan 'forgiveness', aka student loan bailouts for students with wealthy parents, families deal with inflation, corrupt teachers unions and a struggling economy. Each time a family fills up the family vehicle or buys groceries, they're reminded of the higher prices that they're paying. Wednesday, Biden haphazardly delivered a partisan political speech. During the speech, Biden insisted that MAGA suppo

Inconsistencies with Roe v. Wade

Image
By now, everyone who isn't in a coma in the US has heard about the leak of a draft opinion that allegedly will overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark legal case that legalized abortion in 1973. Chief Justice John Roberts has ordered "the marshal of the Supreme Court" to investigate the leak of the draft opinion. Predictably, both political parties have issued statements/made speeches decrying the news. That's as surprising as finding out that Elon Musk is rich. Let's dig a little deeper into Roe v. Wade, though, than Sen. Schumer's threat-filled rant from the Senate floor or Sen. McConnell's speech from the Senate floor. Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe and the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg supported a woman's right to an abortion while thinking that Roe v. Wade was bad constitutional law. That's how the Roe ruling has been talked about for a generation. That's the oversimplified explanation for Roe. It doesn't do the issu

The Democrats' border crisis, Henry Cuellar vs. Jessica Cisneros edition

Image
Anyone that thinks that Republicans aren't sitting in great position to make Texas redder hasn't read Kim Strassel's latest column . Democrats are primarying Henry Cuellar, who's represented Texas's 28 District the past 17 years. Cuellar is being primaried by Jessica Cisneros, "a progressive attorney who supports lifting Title 42..." Strassel writes that if Cisneros defeats Cuellar in the primary, that "may cede the district to the GOP." I'll take it a step further. Whether Cisneros or Cuellar wins the primary, this race is likely a GOP flip. Rep. Cuellar is the most reasonable Democrat on immigration policy but he's still squishy. Cuellar still thinks that Trump's wall "is a 14th century solution to a 21st century problem." Apparently, he hasn't done his research on Trump's wall. But I digress. This is a problem for Democrats: The question is whether the president can step out from the bubble long enough to see the

CNN is frightened of free speech

Image
Today, Townhall's Julio Rosas captured another episode of the left's continued freak-out over Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter. He captured it when CNN's David Zurawik said that we need to regulate free speech like Europe. Zurawik is quoted as saying "You need regulation. You cannot let these guys control discourse in this country or we are headed to hell. We are there. Trump opened the gates of hell and now they’re chasing us down." While that's a stunning quote, Zurawik started by saying "There's a bigger problem here about how we're going to control the channels of communication in this country." Zurawik continued, saying "In 1927, we had the Radio Act; in 1934, we had the Communications Act. Congress stepped in. We made rules. The FCC wasn't great but it's still regulating the broadcast industry. You can't do all these things. You can't use vulgar language." These control freaks seem frightened with the possi

Joe Biden's Ministry of Truth

Image
I haven't written about the Biden administration's proposal to create the Disinformation Governing Board yet. That isn't because I don't have strong opinions about it. Let's understand what this is. It's a defining moment in Biden's presidency. This is Joe Biden's 'Ministry of Truth' moment. The administration that's peddled disinformation about Hunter Biden's laptop from hell can't be trusted as the final arbiter of disinformation. Period. Biden's administration told us that the U.S.-Mexico border was under control. It still isn't. The Biden campaign got 51 members of the Intel Community state that the Hunter Biden laptop story was classic Russian disinformation campaign. Still, we're supposed to trust this administration's Disinformation Governing Board? I don't think so! Remember Peter Doocy questioning DHS Secretary Mayorkas about border security: Here's Secretary Mayorkas testifying about the Haitian '
