Tom Homan: Sanctuary cities are our new priority

Image
Democrats picked the term sanctuary cities to portray those cities as quiet, peaceful cities where the quality of life is improving and their peeople live in harmony. That myth is quickly getting shattered. Tom Homan has a message for sanctuary city mayors. Homan's message is that Your cities are our new priority . Homan is essentially telling Karen Bass and Zohran Mamdani that he desn't care if you're upset with a heightened ICE/Border Patrol presence. That's because your cities have gotten increasingly more dangerous. Over the weekend, 2 illegal aliens shot a Customs and Border Protection agent in New York City. Homan responded Monday morning by saying "Sanctuary cities are now our priority. We're going to flood the zone. You don't want to let us into jail to arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a jail. You want to release him into the street. So, what we're going to do, we'll have more agents in New York City to look for that bad guy....

Scott Bessent: let's investigate the Fed

Image
Now that Scott Bessent is looking over the Fed's shoulder, it's time for Jay Powell (and the CBO?) to start worrying. Yes, I know that the Fed is theoretically an independent agency. Yes, I know that the CBO is part of the Legislative Branch. That's why it's called the Congressional Budget Office. Reuters is reporting that "we should examine whether the institution of the Federal Reserve has been a success overall." You'll have President Trump's votes along with the votes of E.J. Antoni, John Carney, Larry Kudlow, Steve Moore and Steve Forbes. Secretary Bessent sat down for an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box Monday. Secretary Bessent is quoted as saying " What we need to do is examine the entire Federal Reserve institution and whether they have been successful. I'm speaking, actually. I'm going to be in the building this evening. There is a regulatory conference that begins tomorrow. I'm the keynote speaker tonight, talking about...

Nicole Mitchell's post-conviction resignation

Image
It'll soon be official. Recently convicted State Sen. Nicole Mitchell announced today that she's resigning effective August 4th at 5:00 pm CDT. According to a statement released by her legal team, "Mitchell will use the time leading up to Aug. 4 to get her legislative projects ready to hand off to a successor, resolve ongoing constituent service cases, help her legislative staff transition to new employment, and obtain health insurance for one of her sons who is insured through Mitchell’s legislative employment. Once these tasks are completed, Senator Mitchell will tender her resignation,' says the press release. 'It was the honor of her lifetime to serve her District and the State of Minnesota.'" This statement isn't sitting well with State Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson. After he received notice of Sen. Mitchell's resignation letter, he's quoted as saying "Senator Mitchell was convicted of two felonies; she doesn’t get to give the ...

Eric Pratt announces congressional run

Image
Eric Pratt, the 4-term Republican state senator representing Prior Lake, just announced that he's running for the open House seat being vacated by Rep. Angie Craig. This isa the biggest news for Minnesota's congressional delegation this cycle. A loyal reader of this blog told me that Sen. Pratt's district has turned a little more purple, which isn't difficult to picture. This reader said that this will likely be the hottest congressional race in Minnesota this year. Since I started voting in 1974, Minnesota's congressional delegation has either been evenly divided or had a DFL majority. If Pratt can flip the CD-2 seat, that'd likely mean a GOP majority in Minnesota's congressional delegation for the first time in literally a couple generations. I'd think that this race will have lots of money thrown at it from the NRCC and DCCC. That's before starting the conversation on PACs and dark money. This should guarantee high voter turnout statewide and in ...

Introducing Minnesota's Odd Couple

Image
Minnesota's Odd Couple isn't much like Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Still, it's appropriate to call Tim 'Knucklehead' Walz and Omar Fateh, aka the Socialist, Minnesota's Odd Couple. It's appropriate because Gov. Walz is a socialist even though he won't admit it and because Sen. Fateh is a proud socialist who thinks that we should dramatically downsize the Minneapolis Police Department, aka the MPD. First, the proof that Gov. Walz is a socialist is found in this article .In the article, Gov. Walz told former DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison that "We, as Democrats, we want people to pay their fair share, but why are we against people being successful like that? We can't be. Why are we against? We should talk about businesses. Not all businesses exploit their workers and we get ourselves stuck in that. And I think we lose them." The reason why people think Democrats oppose businesses is because a) Democrats haven't defined what people's ...

Dustin Gage's important DSA Convention notes

Image
If you aren't following Dustin Grage's timeline on X , you're missing out on some of the best independent journalism. This article is testimony to Grage's insights. Enjoy. One of Grage's first tweets from the DSA Endorsing Convention in Minneapolis offered a frightening possibility. Grage said "Imagine Omar Fateh and Mary Moriarty having total control over your police department and prosecuting authority. Talk about a gift to Republicans in future election cycles." Here's another stellar Grage observation : The Minneapolis City Council was already studying how to tax the rich and launch government-run grocery stores. Tonight, Democrats endorsed Omar Fateh. A self-proclaimed Socialist backed by the DSA. Get out of Minneapolis while you still can. The DFL doesn't exist anymore. The DFL, aka Democrat-Farmer-Laborer Party, has been taken over by the DSA, aka Democrat Socialists of America. Don't believe me? Ask DFL Party Chair Richard Carlbom: 🚨 ...

Feds make major drug bust in Minnesota

Image
Minnesota isn't just where fraudsters go to thrive. Apparently, it's also where drug cartels thrive . According to Fox9, "Federal prosecutors have indicted two men in connection with one of the largest methamphetamine busts in the history of Minnesota. Joel Casas-Santiago, 46, and Guillermo Mercado-Charparro, 44, are charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine." Further, Dustin Grage is reporting "Guillermo Mercado-Chaparro, 46, is also charged with illegal reentry after previously being deported as an illegal alien." In this tweet , Grage reports that "Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson said in a statement: "A 900-pound haul like this doesn’t just show intent to distribute, it shows intent to poison entire communities. We will not let Minnesota become a distribution hub for cartel-scale operations. This prosecution is just the beginning." Then there's this: This comes just weeks after another major drug bust in Minnesota that...

The DFL vs. the DSA, cage match edition

Image
This morning, the DFL will attempt to prevent the DSA, aka the Democrat Socialists of America, from getting the DSA candidate endorsed for the mayor's position. Will Omar Fateh, the DSA candidate, get endorsed? Or will Jacob Frey, the DFL candidate, get endorsed to run for a third term? This might be a battle for the ages, the political equivalent of a cage match in wrestling. Ultimately, though, it won't matter that much because Fateh and Frey are both radicals. There are some differences but they're more nuanced than major distinctions -- with one exception. Frey fought to keep the police, though he's hardly a law-and-order guy. Fateh is anti-police. That's part of why Fateh has been nicknamed 'the Minneapolis Mamdani.' That's why Fateh will likely be Minneapolis's next mayor. Fateh and Frey, though, are both socialists through-and-through. They both believe in rent control, which will raise rental prices and lead to more displacement of people fr...

Nicole Mitchell found guilty of first-degree burglary

Image
DFL State Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, was found guilty of first-degree burglary on Friday. The guilty verdict was stunning though predictable. According to the article, "Mitchell was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary after allegedly breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home with the intent to take items that once belonged to her late father. A second felony charge, possession of burglary or theft tools, was later added by prosecutors." The verdicts were predictable because Mitchell's trial included body-camera footage and several witnesses. It also included "statements she made on the morning she was arrested by police." Some of those statements included "I have never done anything like this," "There were just a couple things of my dad’s I wanted to come get" "I’m clearly not good at this," " I know I did something bad " and "I just wanted to get a couple of my dad’s mementos." It...

Brian Stelter's fake news, PBS & NPR edition

Image
When CNN fired Brian Stelter, Greg Gutfeld and Sean Hannity were in tears. They'd lost their best (and easiest) punching bag. When Stelter got rehired by CNN, rumor has it that Gutfeld and Hannity sent CNN a Thank You card, thanking CNN for CNN's gift to them. Now that Stelter is back, he's back to his old tricks. Thisa week, he's written this article , which specializes in accepting PBS's statement as Gospel fact. The article opens by saying "Public television stations will be 'forced to make hard decisions in the weeks and months ahead,' PBS CEO Paula Kerger said Thursday, after lawmakers advanced a bill that cancels all the federal funding for the network and for NPR." Forget this. If the CEO of PBS says that they'll be "forced to make hard decisions in the weeks and months ahead", I'd accept that as the truth. It isn't like the CEO of PBS would misrepresent their business interest. The CEO of PBS must be one of the most ho...

Minnesota's Department of Indoctrination and Perversion

Image
Doug Warlow's op-ed is certain to connect with Christians and civil libertarians. It isn't likely to be appreciated by hard-left DFL politicians. So be it. Wardlow's op-ed states "The state’s Department of Education has proposed new K-12 health education standards, including a suite of benchmarks on sexual health that, if adopted, would not only flout Minnesota law but also trample on the First Amendment right of parents to direct the religious upbringing of their children. These proposals aren’t just misguided policy—they represent a profound invasion by the state into the sphere of faith and family." Then Wardlow gets specific, saying "take kindergarteners—five- and six-year-olds—who would be required to use 'medically accurate terms for body parts, including genitals.' Children will be compelled to discuss these sensitive matters in a classroom setting under the instruction of an authority figure who might be a member of the opposite sex. That’s ...

The Democrat Party, where fraud goes to thrive?

Image
When it rains, it pours. Earlier this morning, I wrote 2 articles about another case of Medicaid fraud in Minnesota. You don't know how thankful I am that I'm getting a little diversity with this article . This time, I don't have to deal with state-level fraud. This time, I get to write about a pro who's been a high-profile fraudster for years. This time, I get to write about Adam Schiff. This time, I get to write about alleged mortgage fraud. This time, I get to write about how Adam Schiff allegedly signed Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac documents that "the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)" referred "'to the Department of Justice in May sounding the alarm that in 'multiple instances,' Schiff allegedly 'falsified bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms, impacting payments from 2003-2019 for a Potomac, Maryland-based property.'" It isn't illegal to own more than 1 property. In the case of con...

Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson: "this state needs to confront the scale of its fraud problem."

Image
State Sen. Michael Kreun and Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson are a pair of men on a mission. Acting U.S. Attorney Thompson is quoted as saying "Minnesota has a fraud problem—and not a small one. 'For too long, organized fraud schemes like this have flourished in plain sight , draining public resources dry. Today’s warrants are another step in a much bigger reckoning. This state needs to confront the scale of its fraud problem —because ignoring it is no longer an option." State Sen. Michael Kreun, R-Blaine, is quoted as saying "Accountability starts at the top and these headlines will keep coming until Governor Walz ends his opposition to the bipartisan proposal for an independent Office of Inspector General. " This is getting frustrating. Any of these Twin Cities TV stations could start a weekly Sunday show with the title of 'This Week in Minnesota Fraud." That's how frequent these headlines seem to appear. At this point, we have the right to ...

Minnesota: Medicaid fraud capitol of the U.S.?

Image
It's indisputable that Minnesota needs a dedicated inspector general to prosecute Medicaid. It's obvious that Minnnesota DFL AG Keith Ellison isn't interested in that part of his job of preventing Medicaid fraud. Unfortunately, DFL Gov. Tim Walz isn't interested in preventing Medicaid fraud, either. Further, the DFL isn't interested in preventing Medicaid fraud. These are indisputable facts, not opinions. Alpha News reported from the field while "a search warrant was being served at several locations related to a 'massive scheme to defraud' Medicaid and Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program." Acccording to the warrant, "The Program has proved to be extremely vulnerable to fraud. Since Minnesota became the first state to offer Medicaid coverage for Housing Stabilization Services, dozens of new companies have been created and enrolled in the program. These companies, and the individuals who run them, have taken advantage of t...

St. Cloud State student challenges student fees dedicated for left-wing advocacy

Image
Praise the Lord and pass the constitutional ammunition. The Liberty Justice Center filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Tayah Lackie. Thanks to the judge's ruling, the lawsuit will go forward. According to Alpha News's reporting, the next step is discovery. According to Alpha's reporting, the "U.S. District Court for Minnesota ruled that Students United, an organization funded by student fees at Minnesota State universities, can face accountability for allegedly violating students’ First Amendment rights." According to Alpha News's reporting, "Students United claims to represent all 65,000 students in the Minnesota State University system and is funded in part through fees collected from every student as a condition of enrollment." Obviously, that isn't the truth. Further, MNSCU (sorry not sorry -- old habits die hard) doesn't have the constitutional authority to speak for every student attending their universities. Each student owns the rig...

Nicole Mitchell's trial opens with dramatic opening statement

Image
Nicole Mitchell's trial got started with a dramatic opening statement from Becker County Attorney Brian McDonald. In his opening statement, McDonald instructed the jury to remember the words "I know I did something bad." According to McDonald, that's what Sen. Mitchell said. Further, the arresting officer said that Sen. Mitchell was dressed all in black, that she'd taken off her shoes to help her be stealthy and that her flashlight was covered by a sock. According to Becker County Attorney McDonald's opening statement, this case won't require jurors to read between the lines. McDonald told the jury that Sen. Mitchell broke into her mother-in-law's home by prying open an egress window with a crowbar. According to an Alpha News tweet, McDonald said she "was caught red-handed a short time later." This is reported in Alpha News's report on the trial. According to McDonald's opening statement, "This case won't be about speculatio...

Joe Biden's Catch & Release program vs. Donald Trump's Catch & Detain program

Image
For once, I agree with the Washington Post. a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ice-declares-millions-of-undocumented-immigrants-ineligible-for-bond-hearings/ar-AA1IBhQv" target="_blank"> This Washington Post article states "In the past, immigrants residing in the U.S. interior generally have been allowed to request a bond hearing before an immigration judge. But Lyons wrote that the Trump administration’s departments of Homeland Security and Justice had 'revisited its legal position on detention and release authorities' and determined that such immigrants 'may not be released from ICE custody.' In rare exceptions immigrants may be released on parole, but that decision will be up to an immigration officer, not a judge, he wrote." Why would ICE release illegal aliens after catching them? The honor system didn't work during Biden's time in office. Then again, Biden didn't want them back in custody. Why wouldn't ICE a...

Barack Obama returns in scold mode

Image
Last fall, President Obama campaigned in Pittsburgh, PA. While there, President Obama changed from Mr. Hope and Change into a scold. Obama, while campaigning for the Democrat ticket, tried shaming black men into voting for VP Harris. The soaring rhetoric of yesteryear is gone. In a way, it's symbolic of the Demmocrat Party. There was a time when Democrats inspired people. That Democrat Party was replaced by a joyless party that's more political machine than a party that inspires. Barack Obama the Scold returns The Scold has returned . At a fundraiser in New Jersey last Friday night, President Obama reportedly said "I think it’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And it’s going to require Democrats to just toughen up. You know, don’t tell me you’re a Democrat, but you’re kind of disappointed right now, so you’re not doing anything. No, now is exactly the time that you get in there and do something. Don’t ...

Donald Trump, Mark Rutte, put Vladimir Putin on notice

Image
This morning, President Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte put Russaian President Vladimir Putin on notice, giving Putin 50 days to qork out a peace deal or watch a well-stocked Ukrainian military go on the offensive against Putin's Russia. Fox News is reporting "President Donald Trump on Monday confirmed that the U.S. has agreed to sell arms to NATO just moments after he said Russian President Vladimir Putin has 50 days to secure a peace deal with Ukraine or face "100%" tariffs. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said Trump called him on Thursday to confirm he wanted to enter into a deal with NATO allies to sell them arms for aid to Ukraine." This isn't Biden bluster. Putin has seen that Trump's red lines won't get ignored like Biden's redlines got ignored. Just ask the nuclear scientists at Natanz, Fordow or Isfahan -- if they're still breathing, which I doubt. Better yet, Putin can ask Qassim Soleimani if Trump's red lines ge...

Why did the Biden administration deny Donald Trump's Secret Service requests?

Image
This weekend, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs released a shocking report that includes the acccusation that "the U.S. Secret Service denied multiple requests from Mr. Trump's Secret Service detail to bolster his security apparatus during his 2024 presidential campaign." CBS is reporting that "the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs found that the Secret Service 'denied or left unfulfilled at least 10 requests' from Mr. Trump's detail for 'additional resources,' including an enhanced counter drone system, counter assault team personnel and counter snipers. " That same day, Dr. Jill Biden had a full Secret Service detail for an indoor event. Indoor events aren't without security challenges but they are easier to secure than outdoor events. Why did Dr. Jill have a full detail of experienced Secret Service people while Dr. Jill's husband's chief rival have an understaffed ...

The NEA rips its mask off

Image
God bless Corey DeAngelis. Without Corey's pro-student advocacy, we wouldn't get to look behind the NEA's closed doors. Without that glimpse, we wouldn't have proof of the NEA's militant opposition to President Trump. Thankfully, Corey wrote this op-ed for Fox News that rips the mask off the NEA's true identity. Corey wrote "Far from prioritizing the education of America’s children, the NEA’s agenda was a parade of partisan resolutions, misspelled attacks on political opponents, and a clear alignment with the far-left wing of the Democratic Party." From that point, Corey expanded on the NEA's agenda. For instance, he wrote "The tone was set by Ashlie Crosson, the NEA’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, who declared on July 4th that her job is 'deeply political' and always has been. 'Once I realized how deeply political our profession had always been, I knew I could no longer stay on the sidelines,' Crosson said. The irony of this st...

Ketanji Brown-Jackson -- Joe Biden's legal legacy

Image
Whether he likes it or not, Joe Biden's legal legacy will his nominating Ketanji Brown-Jackson to be a Supreme Court justice. Brown-Jackson is the personification of a DEI hire. She's the Supreme Court's laughingstock. First, Justice Brown-Jackson doesn't seem to understand what justices do. That isn't just my opinion, either. That's what Justice Sotomayor said that Brown-Jackson's dissenting opinion on an 8-1 opinion wasn't on target. Justice Sotomayor wrote "the plans themselves are not before this Court, at this stage, and we thus have no occasion to consider whether they can and will be carried out consistent with the constraints of law. The relevant Executive Order directs agencies to plan reorganizations and reductions in force 'consistent with applicable law.'" When you're a leftist justice and Justice Kagan and Justice Sotomayor vehemently disagree with you, you've really screwed up. Those 3 are as reliable of a voting b...

The Democrats' commonsense crisis

Image
Rhetorically speaking, barrels of ink has gotten spilled on websites speaking about the Democrats' 'image crisis.' The truth is that the Democrats' biggest problem is, according to this article , the Democrats' credibility crisis. The article reports "The Democratic Party’s credibility with voters has plummeted even further since the 2024 election, raising alarm bells as the party looks to rebuild ahead of the midterms and the next presidential election, according to a poll obtained by The Hill." Notice that the article didn't say that the Democrats' credibility started with their defeat in Nov. 2024. It says that "The Democratic Party’s credibility with voters has plummeted even further since the 2024 election." The Democrats' credibility crisis started early in the Biden administration. Specifically, it started with the failed evacuation from Afghanistan. After that, Biden's credibility dropped further when he gave Putin a list...

Ken Martin: Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill betrays everyone

Image
When it comes to spinning, Ken Martin is a piece of work, and not in a positive way. Think of Little Kenny as 'the Hypester of Hyperbole.' Having seen Little Kenny's schtick from his days as chairman of Minnesota's DFL, it's somewhat tiresome to listen to Kenny. According to this fever swamp website , Kenny is insisting that Republicans who voted for President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill "betrayed seniors, where over a quarter of nursing homes around this country are going to close. They betrayed children. … They betrayed rural communities. … They betrayed hardworking Americans." It's a good thing that Kenny is totally trustworthy. Otherwise, I might question some of Kenny's statements. Actually, Kenny isn't trustworthy. That's why I'm questioning Martin's rapid-fire spin. To hear Martin's spin, you'd think that Republicans enjoyed kicking puppies, starving the elderly and the infirm while leaving America's street...

Ken Martin's "big tent" Democrat party

Image
Ken Martin is right when he said that " You win through addition. You win by bringing people into your coalition. We have conservative Democrats; we have centrist Democrats; we have labor progressives like me, and we have this new brand of Democrat which is the leftist." Martin isn't building a big tent Democrat party. Today's Democrats fit into a tiny ideological sliver of Bill Clinton's Democrat Party. It wouldn't be wrong to say that today's Democrat Party satretches from the far left to the far, far left. The far, far left is where you'll find Zohran Mamdani, the socialist/communist. Speaking of Mamdani, Martin was asked about him. Martin said of Mamdani "We win by bringing people into that coalition. At the end of the day, for me, that's the type of party we're going to lead. We are a big tent party." I wrote this article to illustrate how tiny today's Democrat Party is: According to a recent NBC report, the percentage of ...

Tim Walz's taxpayer-funded legal shopping spree

Image
According to Alpha News, Tim Walz went on a taxpayer-funded shopping spree . Alpha is reporting that "A Minnesota lawmaker said he’ll ensure the legislature takes a deeper look at the nearly half million in state dollars Gov. Tim Walz spent to help him prepare for his congressional testimony last month." Gov. Walz racked up a $430,000 legal bill "with K&L Gates, a global law firm, to help the governor prep for testimony before a U.S. House committee on the topic of sanctuary states." Technically speaking, Minnesota isn't a sanctuary state because Minnesota's DFL elected to not pass a sanctuary state law. Then again, it's a wink-and-nod sanctuary state because illegal aliens get free college tuition, non-adults get taxpayer-funded Medicaid and Gov. Walz signed a drivers-licenses-for-all bill into law inMarch, 2023. While it isn't the same as officially being a sanctuary state, it's pretty close. It's worth noting thatlegal residents of Mi...

Democrats' 2026 big blue wave? Don't bet on it

Image
Lately, Democrats have tried spreading the gossip that there's a blue wave heading in the U.S.'s' direction in the 2026 midterms. After reading this article , though, I'm inclined to believe that we're heading towards modest gains in the House and Senate. The reason I think that is because AMAC is reporting "Money talks, to coin a phrase, so we will begin with the story of the latest Federal Election Commission (FEC) disclosures for each of the two parties. The Republican National Committee (RNC) had $72 million in reserves, according to an FEC report released on June 21, 2025. The Democratic National Committee (DNC), on the other hand, had a mere $15 million in cash reserves according to an FEC report released on the same day." That isn't the type of cash-on-hand report that a growing, unified party highlights. In fact, the news gets worse for Democrats. AMAC also reports "Six people briefed on the party’s fund-raising, who spoke on the condition...
