Tim Walz's state of confusion; fight or be civil

Tim Walz, Minnesota's ultraliberal DFL governor, lectured Minnesotans about civility after the assassination of Melissa Hortman, Minnesota's Speaker Emerita. At a press availability, Gov. Walz said "A moment in this country where we watch violence erupt, this cannot be the norm. It cannot be the way that we deal with our political differences. Now is the time for us to recommit to the core values of this country. And each and every one of us can do it. Talk to a neighbor rather than arguing. Debate an issue. Shake hands. Find common ground." That's good advice. It's just delivered by the worst messenger possible.

To those of us who've known Gov. Walz, it isn't surprising. Gov. Walz's sound nice but they're meaningless. Alpha News reports that "Gov. Tim Walz sent a fundraising pitch via text message Friday urging his supporters to 'raise some hell' because President 'Donald Trump and his MAGA henchmen aren’t going to go away willingly.'"

Actually, the more full quote is "Trump and his MAGA henchmen aren't going to go away willingly. That's why it's time to get up, get loud, and raise some hell." Dustin Grage posted the text in this tweet:

That's pretty disgusting. There isn't a single truthful statement in Gov. Walz's text. President Trump isn't "coming for your Social Security." President Trump isn't "jacking up prices for everyone", either. Finally, Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill offers money to parents for school choice, which means that President Trump isn't "making it harder and harder for our children to get a good education." Talk about projection. It's Gov. Walz that's trapping students in failing public schools. President Trump is offering students the opportunity to attend the school of their choice.

Just a month ago, Gov. Walz spoke those high-minded words:

At the start of June, while testing the presidential waters in South Carolina,Gov. Walz said this:
Maybe it’s time for us to be a little meaner. Maybe it’s time for us to be a little more fierce, because we have to ferociously push back on this. And again, I’ll speak to my teacher colleagues in here. The thing that bothers a teacher more than anything is to watch a bully, to watch this bully and to stop it. And when it’s a child, you talk to them and you tell them why bullying is wrong. But when it’s [an] adult like Donald Trump, you bully the shit out of him.
Apparently, Tim Walz can't decide which path to travel. Should he be a statesman? Should he be a schoolyard bully? It's time for Minnesotans to tell him qwhat Donald Trump said so many times on The Apprentice -- You're fired!
