Nicole Mitchell's post-conviction resignation

It'll soon be official. Recently convicted State Sen. Nicole Mitchell announced today that she's resigning effective August 4th at 5:00 pm CDT. According to a statement released by her legal team, "Mitchell will use the time leading up to Aug. 4 to get her legislative projects ready to hand off to a successor, resolve ongoing constituent service cases, help her legislative staff transition to new employment, and obtain health insurance for one of her sons who is insured through Mitchell’s legislative employment. Once these tasks are completed, Senator Mitchell will tender her resignation,' says the press release. 'It was the honor of her lifetime to serve her District and the State of Minnesota.'"

This statement isn't sitting well with State Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson. After he received notice of Sen. Mitchell's resignation letter, he's quoted as saying "Senator Mitchell was convicted of two felonies; she doesn’t get to give the Senate two weeks’ notice. Democrats shielded Mitchell for 15 months to protect their political power, but a jury needed just three hours to confirm what was already clear: she shouldn’t be a senator. Not after April 22, 2024. Not in January of 2025. And not today."

The DFL knew that Sen. Mitchell was guilty despite their statements about due process and her constituents being represented. The DFL needed Mitchell's vote to pass bills. What's obvious is that the DFL will do anything, including protecting a felon, rather than doing their job.

In situations like this, the Senate's job is to vote on whether a senator's actions brought disrepute on the Senate. You don't need to determine whether the senator is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That's the jury's responsibility, not the State Senate's responsibility. Further, the DFL knew Sen. Mitchell wouldn't be found not guilty. The evidence was overwhelming. The star witness for the prosecution was the arresting officer who wore a body-cam. Simply pupt, her goose was cooked and everyone knew it. Then there's this:

This paragraph say everything:
In the Senate, Democrats have a one-seat majority (34-33). With Mitchell’s impending resignation, the Senate will be evenly split between the GOP and the DFL. In turn, Gov. Tim Walz is expected to call a special election for Mitchell’s seat once her resignation is official. The winner of that election will determine which party controls the chamber.
The DFL is the party that ignorers fraud, protects felons, things biological males should share bathrooms and locker rooms with teenage girls and protects illegal aliens. Simply put, the DFL is a collection of losers who stick together whether the things they're passing help Minnesotans or not.
