Tim Walz's special session deflection

Since last Wednesday's deadly school/church shooting in south Minneapolis, it's been apparent that the DFL (and their Twin Cities media allies have sought to deflect from the fact that the shooter was a biological male who hated being trans. According to Scott Johnson's op-ed, which I wrote about here, Robin Westman "professed to 'regret being trans.'" Further, "He wished he 'had never brain-washed' himself."

Today finds us with another distraction. This time, Tim Walz hopes to call a special session to deal with the DFL's go-to distraction, aka "gun violence."

My Goals

My primary goal is to change whichever statutes need changing so that students with mental health issues can get the help they need, not the help that's ideologically driven. My opther goal is provide support to Republicans so that they can fight for giving non-public schools the same resources (school resource officers, metal detectors, etc.) as are made available to public schools. All students should be protected!

“My hope is that over the next day or two, we’ll get some calls made, we’ll gets some folks on, we’ll see some folks stand up publicly and say what the parents of these students are saying, ‘please do something to help us,’” Walz said. “Once they do that, we’ll call that and then bring them back.

"If Minnesota lets this moment slide and we determine that it’s OK for little ones to not be safe in a school environment or church environment, then shame on us," he continued. "So I’m gonna call them back and ask them to do it."

HIGHLIGHT: The DFL has already let this moment slide. To be precise, Minndependent and MCC wrote to Gov. Walz and Lt. Gov. Flanagan asking to be included in the distribution of school safety grants to protect non-public schools. Walz and Lt. Gov. Flanagan rejected that request.

This report shows how contentious this special session would be:

The DFL has a one-track mind when it comes to school safety. Republicans have thought about multiple options available to make schools safer. If you want better policies, vote GOP. If you want career politicians who follow the ideology and represent the failed status quo, vote DFL. Finally, if you want legislators who focus on fixing problems, the DFL isn't a legitimate option. I wish they were but they aren't.
