Illegal immigration's root cause

Image
Climate change advocate Kamala Harris just spent the better part of a week and lots of jet fuel flying to Guatemala, then Mexico City, to learn about the root cause of the illegal immigration crisis. She didn't do this as part of a good-faith effort. This was photo-op city all the way. The bad new for Harris is that all the optics looked awful. Harris's first international trip as VP might be the worst international trip a VP has taken. Ever. Before she even left DC, Alejandro Giammattei, the Guatemalan president, scolded her . Hugo Gurdon's op-ed continues that well-deserved scolding: On her trip, Harris is talking about climate change, among other irrelevancies. Some of those heading north say they’re fleeing hurricanes and drought. But America draws migrants from all over the world now, as it always has, because it is rich and offers free people the opportunity to make a better life. Glossing that over with a modish excuse about climate appeals to the Left, but it’s not...

The Biden administration's Never-Will-Be-Ready-For-Primetime Players

Image
When Saturday Night Live started, part of their cast of characters were nicknamed the Not-Yet-Ready-For-Primetime Players. Fast forward 46 years to the Biden administration. I've nicknamed the most prominent people the Never-Will-Be-Ready-For-Primetime players. DHS Secretary Mayorkas was asked by Peter Doocy what he meant when he said that the border was closed. Here's the clip of that briefing question:   Notice that Doocy started the question of by stating that "We have cameras in Texas that are showing humongous groups of dozens or hundreds of migrants coming into the country so I'm wondering what you meant when you said that the border is closed." Despite that visual proof, Secretary Mayorkas said that the border is closed. It reminded me of this briefing from Baghdad Bob:   Another no-talent cabinet secretary is Secretary of State Blinken. He managed to get lecture on human rights by China. That takes some doing. Still, the biggest no-talent of the administra...

The DFL's Daunte Wright problem

Image
The DFL has a Daunte Wright problem. Wright is the young man who was shot on April 11, 2021 during a traffic stop showed he had an outstanding warrant. When the police tried handcuffing Wright , "Wright broke free from the grip and jumped into the driver’s seat of his car, then shifted it into gear." Officer Kim Potter "Potter could be heard yelling 'Taser! Taser.' Potter "drew her handgun instead and fired a single shot into Wright from just a few inches away. The car drove off, then crashed. Wright died and a passenger was injured." That isn't the DFL's problem. That officer-involved-shooting stands apart from the DFL's problem. At Wright's funeral, Minnesota DFL Gov. Tim Walz eulogized Wright, saying "We know that this tragedy is connected to the deep and systemic racism in our society that Black people in Minnesota and across this country face every single day." On stage that day were "Gov. Tim Walz, Sens. Amy Klobucha...

Barack Obama's latest fiction

Image
After reading this article , it's impossible not to question Barack Obama's imagination. During a recent interview, Obama said "certain right-wing media venues" are stoking "fear and resentment" among White Americans toward the increasingly diverse population." Later, "Obama told CNN's Anderson Cooper the country has not 'fully reconciled with our history' and that it's a 'hard thing to hear,' especially for White Americans." What a racist thing to say. Then again, expectations aren't high for someone who lives in gated communities and who threw white police officers under the bus. Remember this? He didn't know the details of what happened. Obama just knew that "the police acted stupidly." In other words, Obama made an assumption based on his own bias. That sounds kinda racist to me. I'm betting it sounds sorta racist to more than a few people. "You can be proud of this country and its tradit...

Kamala Harris's first foreign trip

Image
It's obvious that VP Kamala Harris' first international trip got off to a disastrous start. Before she landed in Guatemala, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei told CBS "The message changed to, 'We are going to reunite families and we are going to reunite children. The very next day the coyotes here were organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.'" It doesn't take a translator to figure out that the root cause of this immigration crisis is Joe Biden's change to an open borders policy. During her press conference with Guatemalan President Giammattei, Harris recited the obligatory "Do not come. Do not come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws and secure our border." That's as believable as Alejandro Mayorkas telling Peter Doocy that the "border is closed."   First, it's a joke for Harris to say that the US "will continue to enforce our laws and secure our border." You c...

The DFL still isn't listening to parents on school choice

Image
Moments ago, the Senate DFL tweeted a complaint that Republicans won't remove vouchers from their K-12 bill. The DFL said that "vouchers take money that belongs to public schools..." Last week, Senate Republicans held a press conference in front of the headquarters of Education Minnesota. During the Q & A portion of the press conference, Sen. Roger Chamberlain said that the school choice provision of the bill would stay in the Senate bill until the DFL publicly opposed school choice. The Senate GOP issued this statement prior to the press conference. In the statement, Republicans said "A group of Minnesota parents and education advocates today held a press conference alongside several legislators to call for school choice in Minnesota. The parents, who came from a variety of backgrounds, emphasized that education is in crisis and drastic steps must be taken to close the state’s historic and persistent achievement gap. They pleaded for state leaders to empower pa...

Joe Biden's vaccination drive stalling

Image
At this point, who's listening to Joe Biden about COVID? This corporate media article  laments the fact that people aren't marching to clinics or the local CVS or Walmart to get vaccinated. The corporate media article also notes that the nation hasn't reached Joe Biden's goal of having 70% of this nation's adults vaccinated. Remember this inspirational part of Biden's speech where he said that if everyone does their part and follows his plan, we could get to host a BBQ with our family for the 4th of July?   Joe then added that these wouldn't be big gatherings. Talk about incentivizing people to get vaccinated. But I digress. Back to the article: Plummeting vaccination rates have turned what officials hoped would be the "last mile" of the coronavirus immunization campaign into a marathon, threatening President Biden’s goal of getting shots to at least 70 percent of adults by July 4. Almost a month ago, Dr. Nicole  Saphier stated that the emergency...
