The Dems' Rahm Emanuel problem
I can't say that Obamacare is a total waste. I'm confident, though, that it's hurt more than it's helped. Mark Shepard, Harvard Kennedy School associate professor of public policy, is quoted as saying "It’s true that this shutdown fight is about a seemingly technical issue: whether to extend more generous 'enhanced' health insurance subsidies that have been in place since 2021. If Congress doesn’t act, those subsidies will expire at the end of this year, and out-of-pocket insurance premiums will rise for about 20 million Americans in January 2026."
That's nice spin but it's about whether the ACA, aka the Affordable Care Act, should be called the Unaffordable Care Act. The ACA is still expensive as hell. The ACA is still the millstone tied around Emanuel's throat. Emanuel isn't a moderate, as he's portraying himself as. He's still corrupt like Lori Lightfoot was and Brandon Johnson is.
Emanuel is still the guy who stood quietly by when President Obama said that cops "had acted stupidly" moments after he'd admitted that he didn't know what officers had done. Rahm scolds Democrats:
RAHM EMANUEL: We lost the plot. We as Democrats nationally, from Latinx, to defunding the police, to police organizations are all racist, to bringing a set of cultural wars to our schools. We are on the losing side of those cultural wars. Full stop. You are worried about bathroom access and locker room access. Why don't you focus on classroom excellence? You have 50% of our kids not reading at grade level.Rahm's problem is that education isn't a winning issue for Democrats, at least not since COVID. People know that unions are utterly corrupt. Here's something worth watching: When Bill Sammon told Chris Stirewalt that Emanuel "was definitely more of a moderate", he also said that Emanuel was most likely running for president in 2028. He's right about the latter. He's wrong about Emanuel being a moderate, though. Anyone rating Emanuel as a moderate is either guilty of grade inflation or is grading on a curve. What a joke.
On education, Emanuel will talk the talk of a moderate but he won't implement any reforms. That's because Democrats are owned by Randi Weingarten and the teachers unions. It's that simple.
