Pat Garofalo's 'sleeper issue'?

Last night during Almanac's Political Roundtable segment, co-host Eric Eskola brought up Minnesota's projected budget surplus for this biennium that's expected to morph into a projected deficit in the next biennium. Specifically, Eskola mentioned "$3.7 billion projected surplus. Are you confident that any of that will get back to the taxpayer in relief in 1 way or another?" Emily Novotny-Chance replied "We'll see. I don't think so. We still have to balance out the (budget) tail." That led into the hottest conversation of the night. Eskola started by asking "Because, down the line, there's a problem. Note that the tab fee thing got beat already in 1 of the committees in the legislature. Jesse Ventura won an election on that."

After Jeffrey Hayden's answer, former Rep. Garofalo replied, saying "I think that's a sleeper issue. Not that it's all about me but, hey, it's all about me. My license fees were over $1,000." After one of the ladies expressed shock (I couldn't tell which lady), Garofalo re-entered the conversation, saying "yeah, it cost over $1,000 to renew my tabs this year. ... Here's my test. When my nonpolitical friends complain to me about something, I know that something's going on. There are people whose tab fees increased. Like, they have the same car, the car got a year older but the fees went up. This is kind of a sleeper issue."

Cathy Wurzer jumped in, saying that a friend of hers "has a Toyota minivan, which is not an attractive vehicle in any shape, manner or form, and it's old. It cost $750. This was the most animated Roundtable discussion in months, partially because those that chimed in were surprised at the potency of this seemingly mundane issue. Except that there's NOTHING mundane about these super-expensive license tab fees.

These fees represent the difference between prosperity and struggling. The DFL preaches affordability, then practices making life expensive. These license tab fees are a 'gift' from the DFL Trifecta's $10,000,000,000 (that's $10 BILLION) tax hike on top of the DFL spending away the entire $18,000,000,000 projected surplus and ignoring the $9,000,000,000+ fraud giveaway:

Here's the Roundtable video:

More coming on the less-than-high-profile issues of this election.
