Tim Walz's news conference
It's a safe bet that the first question asked at Gov. Walz's press conference this morning will be to ask if he's staying in the race. Of course, that's if Gov. Walz doesn't announce it during his formal statement. If he announces that he's dropping out during his opening, then the first question will be about what he and Sen. Klobuchar talked about. One of the unspoken questions will be whether he regrets accepting Kamala Harris's invitation to be her running mate. Since then, Gov. Walz's political career has dropped like a rock. Juicy-sounding news spreads like wildfire. Sunday afternoon, the biggest speculation in Minnesota was whether Harrison Smith had played his last game with the Vikings.
By the time the late news hit, Fox9 was interviewing Blois Olson, the guy who broke the story. Last week, speculation was running rampant about Nick Shirley's reporting. This week starts with Shirley potentially knocking out a potential history-making governor running for a third term.
The big lesson from this is that you'd better pay attention to running government. If you're arrogant, which Gov. Walz is, a Nick Shirley-type of reporter will catch you by surprise. This was the breaking news 9 days ago:
I don't doubt that Gov. Walz is feeling bitter if he's dropping out. He saw the VP run and his re-election as stepping stones to the White House. Those plans have been canceled. Then there's this:There have been years of investigation that began with a massive $300 million pandemic fraud case involving the nonprofit Feeding Our Future. Prosecutors said it was the country’s largest COVID-19-related fraud scam and that defendants exploited a state-run, federally funded program intended to provide food for children. So far, 57 people have been convicted, either because they pleaded guilty or lost at trial. Most of the defendants are of Somali descent. What a difference 2 weeks make.
