Barack Obama talks redistricting, gerrymandering
At the fundraiser, President Obama said "I believe that Gov. Newsom’s approach is a responsible approach. He said this is going to be responsible. We’re not going to try to completely maximize it." Why should I trust the man from the most gerrymandered state in the union?
The worst thing that ever happened to President Obama is Donald Trump's victory in 2016. Trump essentially dismantled President Obama's legislative agenda. Then President Trump highlighted how life had improved for people. When Trump predicted lower gas prices, Obama said "You can't drill your way to cheaper prices." Immediately after that, the Trump administration drilled their way to cheap gas prices:
Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less:Trusting Obama is like trusting Biden to secure the border. Trusting Obama to play fair with redistricting is the equivalent of trusting the Sierra Club to make predictions about the environment. In other words, it's foolish. From Obama:
"We're only going to do it if and when Texas and/or other Republican states begin to pull these maneuvers. Otherwise, this doesn’t go into effect." he added.Obama is missing an important point. Before the map can go into effect, the citizens of California will have to vote to repeal the California Citizens Redistricting Commission. The odds of that happening are slim. To repeal that California constitutional amendment, they'll need to persuade almost one-fifth of the voters in last year's presidential election to re[eal the amendment they passed. Here's hoping that this special election fails.
The other thing that President Obama intentionally omitted is the fact that things are still grim if the special election succeeds. California might even out the seats gained in Texas, though it's still doubtful. Where do Democrats make up for the seats gained in Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee and other states? Illinois is already gerrymandered to the maximum. Ditto with New York. Then there's this:
In a post Wednesday on X, Obama said gerrymandering shouldn't be a part of politics. Instead, it should be a "fair fight" between Republicans and Democrats based on the competition of ideas.Democrats are in this fix because their ideas don't work and their politicians are as phony as a $3 bill. Democrats wouldn't have this crisis if they weren't so wedded to their far-left ideology. That's their problem. Now they have to deal with their past decisions.
