Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill passes another hurdle
This week, President Trump and Speaker Johnson tried a different trick. This week, the bill failed on Wednesday night but brought back to life on Sunday night. Mike Johnson is fortunate to have President Trump as his closer. He's the best closer in U.SS. history. On election night 2025, ABC made mention that Trump's movement wasn't just strong. It was enduring, too. It's lasted a decaade for a reason.
Chip Roy issued a statement, saying "Tonight, after a great deal of work and engagement over the weekend, the Budget Committee advanced a reconciliation bill that lays the foundation for much needed tax relief, border security, and important spending reductions and reforms. Importantly the bill now will move Medicaid work requirements forward and reduces the availability of future subsidies under the green new scam," Roy said in a statement after the vote."This is a mopnstrous bill. Look at all of the things that ae included in it. Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox News Sunday yesterday:
The House Budget Committee passed a framework earlier this year with "instructions" for various other committees to enact Trump policies under their jurisdictions. This was a bit of a cheap shot:Following House and Senate-wide votes on their frameworks, House committees began crafting those policies, which have now been put back together into the massive bill the House Budget Committee advanced on Sunday night.
Republicans are working to pass Trump’s agenda via the budget reconciliation process, which allows the party controlling both Congress and the White House to pass vast pieces of legislation while completely sidelining the minority – in this case, Democrats.Democrats sidelined themselves by unreasonably hating President Trump. These are mainstream policies. They're policies that got President Trump elected by sweeping the battleground states.
It's worth noting that President Trump won the battleground states, then won Nevada, too. It wasn't a surprise that Trurmp won Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona. Flipping Nevada is a big deal, though, as is flipping the blue wall.
While it'd be foolish to count this as finished, it isn't foolish to think of this as another strong step towards the GOP's final goal. Once it's passed, though, the GOP will lots of reasons for celebrating.
