Donald Trump's and J.D. Vance's special guests to Army-Navy Game
Saturday afternoon, President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance will attend the annual Army-Navy game with some special guests. The game will be held in Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. President-Elect Trump's special guests will be Forida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Petee Hegseth, Trump's nominee to be his Secretary of Defense. According to FactCheck.org, Gov. DeSantis "touted his military experience, saying he 'was assigned with U.S. Navy SEALs in Iraq' and 'deployed to Iraq alongside U.S. Navy SEALs.' That’s accurate: He was a Navy lawyer who advised a SEAL commander." According to this USAToday article, "Vance served in the Marine Corps for four years, from 2003-2007, and was a public affairs officer during a six-month stint in Iraq but never saw combat."
As for Hegseth's military career, 1"Hegseth joined the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps in 2001. After graduating from Princeton in 2003, Hegseth joined Bear Stearns as an equity capital markets analyst and was also commissioned as an infantry officer in the Minnesota National Guard. In 2004, his unit was called to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, of the 101st Airborne Division, where he served as an infantry platoon leader and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, Iraq, where he served first as an infantry platoon leader and later as civil-military operations officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal."
Finally, Vice President-Elect Vance's special guest will be "Daniel Penny, the man recently acquitted in the chokehold death of Jordan Neely." Penny also saerved as a U.S. Marine. This the 125th playing of the Army-Navy game. It's often portrayed as the most prestigious of the Rivalry Weekend games because it's about more than football. CBS ran this report during Friday's program:
What a great week for Hegseth and Penny. Hegseth started the weekwondering if he'd make it to his confirmation hearing. Hegseth finished his week looking like he'll get confirmed and by attending the Army-Navy game. Further, Hegseth finished the week by having the independent media confirm that he'd applied to and gotten accepted by West Point. That's a pretty positive week.Speaking of having a positive week, Daniel Penny started the week by having Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg drop the top charge in order to convince the jury to convict on the lower charge. By midafternoon Monday, Penny had been cleared of both charges. Further, he's being hailed as NYC's Good Samaritan. As if that isn't enough, he's finishing his week at the Army-Navy Game as Vice President-Elect Vance's personal guest.
If you can think of 2 guys who've had a better week, let me know because I can't think of a pair more blessed than Hegseth and Penny.
