Why does Education Minnesota, DFL hate students?
After reading this Alpha News article about Minnesota's disturbing test scores, people HAVE GOTTEN IMPATIENT with Minnesota's educational decline. Minnesota's parents aren't satisfied with EdMinn's and the DFL's failing status quo. I say failing rather than failed because Minnesota's public schools haven't reversed the course. Luke Sprinkel reports "According to 2026 data from the Minnesota Report Card, MDE’s online portal for student achievement scores, just 48.6% of students are proficient in reading. Meanwhile, only 44.9% are proficient in math and just 25.5% are proficient in science. Data from the Minnesota Report Card shows math proficiency has hovered between 44% and 45% since 2022 while science proficiency was 26.2% last year. Similarly, reading proficiency was at 51% in 2022 and dropped to 49.5% by 2025."
We're entering an AI world. How can Minnesota compete when only 25.5% are grade-proficient in science? That's a recipe for longterm scientific and economic disaster. Compare 2018 with 2026:
Minnesota’s abysmal education scores have been the subject of debate for years with Republicans hammering DFL Gov. Tim Walz for the poor scores. In 2018, the year Walz was elected, 59.9% of students were proficient in reading and 57.2% were proficient in math. That's a drop of 11.3 points in reading and a drop of 12.3 points in math. Gov. Walz was elected to his first term in 2018. He's in his last year of his second term in 2026. Couple that information with the fact that he was a school teacher by trade before becoming a career politician in 2006. That means he's been a failure.
“Under Tim Walz, fewer than half of Minnesota students are proficient in math and reading, according to data released today from the latest round of Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment testing,” Republican gubernatorial nominee Lisa Demuth said Wednesday. Demuth, the speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives and a former school board member, is running on a platform to make Minnesota a “Top 10” state for education.Compare Speaker Demuth's plan with Sen. Klobuchar's plan:Among her proposals, Demuth wants to increase school safety funding, empower parents in their child’s education, lessen state mandates, and "remove 'woke' standards adopted by the Walz status quo and replace them with evidence-based math and [phonics]."
"I have a plan to get student achievement up and screen time in the classroom down," Klobuchar said. "That includes using evidence-based approaches to drive real results in reading and math, small group tutoring, and boosting attendance.""Small group tutoring" isn't a bad idea but it's an unfunded mandate. Not every school needs that. Further, where's school choice in Sen. Klobuchar's plan? Without school choice, there isn't the required competition in urban schools. This press availability exposes Education Minnesota's grip on the DFL: Ben Bakeberg explained how the scholarship program that's part of the One Big Beautiful Bill could help Minnesota schools and Minnesota students. For this to happen, though, the governor has to opt into the program. Education Minnesota won't let Tim Walz opt in. That's EdMinn's line in the sand. Unfortunately, it's hurting schools snd students. It isn't a stretch to say that EdMinnn is anti-student and anti-Minnesota. Minnesota deserves better than EdMinn's puppets like Sen. Klobuchar and Gov. Walz.Klobuchar’s education plan includes support for "evidence-based curriculum in elementary classrooms," small-group tutoring, and a ban on cellphones in K-12 classrooms.
