Scott Bessent, Kash Patel, Dr. Oz hold news conference in St. Cloud, MN

It isn't a secret that Minnesota is considered Ground Zero for fraud. That's why members of the Trump administration held a news conference in St. Cloud, MN Friday afternoon. Vice President Vance was first scheduled to head the administration's delegation but he didn't come for some undisclosed reason. Instead, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, FBI Director Kash Patel, CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson led the delegation. The delegation came to "St. Cloud to announce new arrests, federal investigations and an intensified crackdown on schemes siphoning taxpayer dollars from government programs."

According to the article, the Trump administration's message was clear: Minnesota’s fraud problem has reached extraordinary proportions, and Washington is no longer looking the other way." Implied is the thought that a) the Biden administration turned a blind eye to the fraud and b) the Walz-Flanagan had ignored the problem until it grew into a crisis.

Secretary Bessent opened, saying "“Nowhere is the war [on fraud] more urgent than here in Minnesota." Here's the videotaped news conference:

This is the reward for electing an administration that's alert and gives a damn:
Patel announced that FBI agents and federal partners executed 17 search warrants Thursday and arrested four defendants in connection with alleged healthcare fraud schemes.

The defendants include Feisal Elmi of Aspen Associates, charged with 11 counts of healthcare fraud involving $8 million in intended losses; Jama Mohamod of American Home Health Care, charged with eight counts involving $3.2 million; Faiza Ahmed of Home Sweet Home, charged with six counts involving $10 million; and Habiba Mohamed of Smart Therapy, charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States in connection with a $19.1 million scheme.

"It’s a great day to be here in Minnesota," Patel said. "It’s a great day for America, because the world knows we are not just watching fraud. We’re taking action, and we’re kicking butt."

People won't mistake the Trump administration and the Walz administration in terms of competence. I'm wondering, too, whether the Walz administration is incompetent or corrupt or a little of both. I'm opting for Option C.

While the VP would've brought more media attention, Scott Bessent and Kash Patel shined a bright spotlight on Minnesota fraud. Finally, this event didn't help Peggy Flanagan's or Amy Klobuchar's campaign.
