Another famous Minneapolis financial fiasco
Years ago, in 2009, I wrote about Minneapolis "about of a plan to install ten drinking fountains designed by artists, costing a total of $500,000." You'd think they'd learn but they didn't. After reading this Alpha News article, it's clear that Jacob Frey is just as willing to waste taxpayers' money as R.T. Rybak was.ccording to Alpha, "Minneapolis is currently facing a budget shortfall of approximately $60 million. To rectify that, Mayor Jacob Frey has proposed a dramatic 11.3% increase in the city’s property tax levy and has recommended that Minneapolis cut 100 city jobs. However, the city is currently partnering with the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis to find the next 'Minneapolis Poet Laureate.' That person will be paid $16,000 by the city."
That's astonishing. Minneapolis is facing an estimated $60,000,000 deficit. If those things aren't terrible enough, Mayor Frey is proposing a property tax hike of 11.3%. Who can afford to live in Minneapolis?
I've saved the best for last:
Dr. Moe Smith has practiced chiropractic and wellness care in Minneapolis for more than 20 years — and has owned Moe Bodyworks in Uptown for 15 years. After years of success, however, she’s lost more than 75% of her business since the George Floyd riots in 2020. While Mayor Jacob Frey and the mainstream media want everyone to believe that crime is down, Smith told Liz Collin on her podcast that she’s experienced a much different story.Minneapolis, like Minnesota, is heading in the wrong direction. FAST! If you don't believe me, listen to Dr. Smith: Crime is a hidden tax on businesses. It drives costs up without providing any additional services. To businesses, it's a lose-lose situation.Dr. Smith told Collin that "it’s absolutely undeniable at this point that business is drastically affected by safety issues in Minneapolis. I’ve been here for over 20 years and my business currently is about 25% percent of the volume that it was pre-George Floyd."
