Peggy Flanagan vs. Michele Tafoya or Adam Schwarze

It's been seemingly forever since the Minnesota GOP has had an opportunity to flip a statewide seat from blue-to-red. The last time that happened was 2002 when Norm Coleman flipped Paul Wellstone's seat after Sen. Wellstone's tragic plane crash death. Still, that's the position that the Minnesota GOP finds themselves in after they endorsed Adam Schwarze to be their candidate for U.S. Senate. That's how the GOP wrapped up their first day of their 2026 Convention.

In the interest of full disclosure, I've been a fan of Michele Tafoya's since she jumped into this race. I won't pretend to be unbiased. That being said, I'm totally willing to enthusiastically support Mr. Schwarze if he wins the primary. Let me explain my thinking behind my decision.

Why I suppport Michele:

  1. Michele has charisma and likeability, 2 of the biggest gifts a politician can have. Within months, she'll be tackling issues of importance.
  2. Michele has a good grasp of the issues and the ability to communicate them.
  3. She has the ability to win in the suburbs. You can't govern if you don't first win.
Adam Schwarze:
  1. First, Mr. Schwarze has impressive credentials, starting with being a former Navy SEAL.
  2. During his interview with KSTP's Tom Hauser repeatedly mentioned the fact that Michele Tafoya has higher name recognition and has raised more money than he has. He didn't let those repeated shots disturb him. Schwarze responded with solid answers each time.
Here's the entire At Issue program.

Hauser's interview of Schwarze consumes the entire second segment. While I'd prefer Michele Tafoya be the candidate, I think that Schwarze is impressive. Check this report out:

Both Schwarze and Tafoya preached unity and winning now. That's the right messaging.
