John Barrasso breaks news on Trey Gowdy's program

Dr. Sen. John Barrasso broke some news while being interviewed by Trey Gowdy on Gowdy's Sunday Night In America program. Early in the interview, Gowdy asked Sen. Barrasso "How does this end. Democrats think that they have a political advantage right now. How do we get out of this?" Barrasso replied "Democrats care more about protecting criminal illegal immigrants than they care about protecting the American people. That's why we're in this situation right now. They want open borders and they want to shut down Immigration and Customs Enforcement and they voted that way in the Senate 7 times in the last couple of weeks. It's disgraceful. ... My hats off to President Trump for decisively telling Democrats 'Look, we're not going to be held hostage by the Democrats, by Chuck Schumer. We're going to pay the TSA agents, which is what he's done. The paychecks will go out tomorrow. I was on the phone with him Thursday night and we agreed we'd move ahead with reconciliation in the Senate. It is something that can be done with party lines alone. Republicans in the House, Republicans in the Senate, getting it to the President's desk and funding DHS, ICE Border Patrol, all of those way into the year 2030." That's major news, people:

It isn't surprising that they're opting for reconciliation. What's surprising is that Republicans opted to fund DHS through 2030. Saying that's unusual is understatement. Then again, this wouldn't have been required if Democrats had negotiated in good faith. They didn't. Now, they'll be known as the Democrats who a) own the 2 longest shutdowns in U.S. history and b) put the Democrat Party ahead of this nation's security.

There's no disputing that. It's out in the open for all the world to see. As a partisan Republican, I don't like this tactic being required. That being said, it's required because Democrats negotiated in bad faith. Democrats moved the goalposts multiple times. With a nation at war, it's irresponsible to not fund a major part of the national security apparatus. Finally, this will be part of Republicans' campaigns.
