Keith Ellison, First Amendment illiterate
The article opens, saying "Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison found himself in the hot seat Thursday as Republican senators accused him of encouraging people to obstruct federal immigration enforcement, emboldening anti-ICE activists, and maintaining troubling ties to individuals later charged in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme." Sen. Ron Johnson "accused Ellison of encouraging 'trained activists to put themselves in harm’s way to impede law enforcement' and pressed him about anti-ICE activists using Signal chats to coordinate actions during federal immigration operations." This is Ellison's response:
During his crossexamination, Ellison insisted that deploying activists to disrupt legal ICE enforcement activities i protected by the First Amendment. That's a warped view of the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects peaceful protests. It doesn't protect people disrupting arrests.Johnson responded by accusing Ellison of encouraging activists to interfere with law enforcement: "You encouraged trained activists to put themselves in harm’s way to impede law enforcement … does that concern you?"That's an outright lie from Ellison. Renee Good PARKED HER SUV in the middle of the street. No only that but she parked it at an angle across the street. That isn't how you "protest peacefully, protest safely." Keith Ellison isn't illiterate. He's justing the First Amendment.Ellison denied the allegation: "That never happened. We at all times said if you want to protest, protest peacefully, protest safely."
