Anti-Ice activists chain themselves to U of M building

When I first read this article, I thought 'who'd want to hire these losers?' The article opens by saying "A quartet of University of Minnesota students chained themselves to a campus building on Friday afternoon to demand the school president declare UMN a sanctuary campus and sever all ties with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka ICE." The article then reports that 3 of the 4 activists were arrested.

Next, the article reports "According to The Minnesota Daily, the four chained students were joined by two others at Morrill Hall, and represented the groups Young Democratic Socialists of America, Students for Justice in Palestine, and Students for a Democratic Society."

What type of employer wants a bunch of disruptive employees that don't respect law enforcement? If you had a business that relied on productivity and innovation, this quartet's resumes would be put at the bottom of the pile. Let's remember that Omar Fateh, 'the Mamdani of the Midwest,' is part of the DSA, as is Ilhan Omar.

Here's some of the groups' demands:

The chained activists, who at times chanted “Fuck ICE! ICE out!” said they planned to remain until their demands were met. Additional demands included:
  • An official statement declaring ICE unwelcome on campus
  • A ban on ICE use of university parking facilities
  • Activation of lockdown protocols if ICE trespasses
  • Repeal of restrictions on campus demonstrations
  • Requirements that businesses leasing university property prohibit ICE agents
  • Online course options through the end of current ICE operations
Organizations that hate Israel should be persona non grata on campus. Declaring ICE "unwelcome on campus" is meaningless. That won't solve any problems. If I'm a business owner, I'm looking for solutions-oriented people. I don't need a herd of people who think that they're doing something because they're being disruptive. Groupthink isn't appealing. Chad Wolf, the former Acting Director of ICE explains ICE's responsibilities in this interview:

What isn't explained is that removing ICE won't stop the violence. These are paid protesters. The pay's the same whether they're complaining about ICE, the Israeli 'occuppation' of Gaza or something else. The man signing the front of the check is still the same.

This is a vital part of the DFL. Their policies stink so they need rent-a-mob types to keep the unthinking activists activated.
