Is Tim Walz dropping out? Is Amy Klobuchar running for governor?
The backstory:
"Gov. Walz has faced national criticism from President Trump, among others, for his handling of Medicaid fraud in the state. Republican opponents have accused Walz of being slow to respond to the fraud. According to Olson, Walz has also faced pressure from his Democrat colleagues to make a decision on his 2026 run."
I don't know why Sen. Klobuchar would be interested in leaving Washington, DC and returning to Minnesota. Saying that's a head scratcher is understatement. Further, if Gov. Walz dropped out, his legacy would be irreparably tarnished. Gov. Walz didn't respond quickly to the George Floyd riots. He didn't take the Somali Medicaid fraud seriously. His run for VP was the final nail in Kamala Harris's coffin. To be fair there, though, she was a sinking ship before he joined the ticket. Randy Shaver interviewed Blois Olson:
This moment instantly made history: Whether he drops out or he continues campaigning, his reputation is tarnished. The question then is whether he wants to get pushed out or whether he wants to go out on his own terms.
