Jacob Frey defeats Omar Fateh, the 'Midwest Mamdani'
I didn't see that coming. First off, I didn't know who'd win. Next, I thought that Sen. Fateh would be the one to win early if anyone won early.
The chief takeaway is that the Midwest's Mamdani met with a harsh outcome, as did St. Paul's Melvin Carter. Kaohly Her defeated Carter in the second round of rank-choice voting:
The race was close, with Her leading Carter by fewer than 2,000 votes in the second ranked-choice vote round. After round one, Carter held a slight lead, 40.83% to Her's 38.4% of the vote. Because no candidate reached the 50 percent threshold, the mayoral election was sent to a second round.Simply put, the Mamdani Wave didn't materialize. That doesn't mean Republicans don't have a communications mess to clean up. Republicans have let Democrats get away with talking about the Affordable Care Act subsidies. If the subsidies need to be renewed every couple years, that isn't that affordable. We should rename the bill the UNAffordable Care Act. Instead of letting Jeffries get away with this: Instead, we should insist that the high premiums and the subsidies have turned the ACA into th UNAfordable Care Act. Consatantly renewing subsidies isn't affordle. It increases inflation, which is the opposite of affordable. In Round 2, Her earned the majority of the vote and the projected win.
While we survived Tuesday night, need to vastly improve before the Midterms. First, we must show low-propensity voters that we need to keep the great ideas coming. Any type of break gives Democrats a sense of momentum. That CAN'T happen, not next year, not in the next 10 years. That means everyone working their butts off. PERIOD!
Next, with inflation dropping, Republicans need to outraise Democrats. PERIOD!
