When Hell froze over: Washington Post criticizes Democrats
It must be time to watch for Satan handing out skates. Hell must've frozen over. In Wednesday's edition, the Washington Post criticized Democrats for holding government hostage. According to the article, "The Washington Post editorial board criticized Senate Democrats on Wednesday for holding the government "hostage" for a month in hopes of extending costly Obamacare subsidies and urged them to reopen the government by voting for a clean funding bill."
That's been the right thing to do for almost a month. It never should've come to a shutdown, much less the second-longest shutdown in US history. Democrats never had a chance of extending the Obamacare subsidies.
Theoretically, Democrats were fighting to extend Obamacare subsidies. That wasn't going to happen, especially with all of the subsidies' complexities. Reopening the government, or better yet, not shutting it down in the first place, would've prevented the building of the ill will that now exists.
Further, the Post editorial said this:
"The right answer is to reopen the government with a clean funding bill, ideally for a full year, to get food stamps flowing and federal workers back in the office, and then have a debate about ACA subsidies. Democrats openly acknowledge that they refuse to do this because it would mean giving up their leverage. If they persist, it could mean families start to go hungry."Brian Mast and Steve Scalise explained thing perfectly at this press conference: When this shutdown ends and Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries take the lion's share of the blame, they can pretty much kiss their leaderships good-bye because their careers will pretty much be over.
As for Democrats flipping the House, they can kiss that good-bye, too. The House GOP is far from perfect but they aren't nuts like Democrats.
