House GOP leadership proactively introduces school safety package
According to this Alpha News article, "Republicans in the Minnesota legislature announced a school-safety agenda on Thursday they say they’ll make a priority to pass during a potential special session and during next year’s regular session." This tells the DFL this isn't just a special session stunt. It's a well-thought through set of proposals. That being said, the DFL isn't likely to support much of the GOP's agenda. That’s their problem.
If the DFL doesn’t want to protect all students, that can become the DFL’s cross to bear.Predictably, Sen. Klobuchar went to the Senate floor and delivered a lengthy 16 minute speech that was mostly about tugging on people's emotions:
I'm not doubting that Sen. Klobuchar grieves with those parents. I'm just saddened that she didn't offer a substantive package of provisions that will fix the problem. In that sense, the speech was a waste of time. This is what a comprehensive school safety plan looks like: When Gov. Walz announced that he "intended" to call a special session, that didn't sound like there'd definitely be a special session on gun violence. In addition to today's House GOP proposal, "Rep. Drew Roach said he will introduce a bill to repeal Minnesota’s ban on so-called 'conversion therapy,' which bans therapy 'that seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity.' The shooter in the Annunciation attack reportedly wrote in a manifesto that he 'was tired of being trans' and wished he had 'never brainwashed' himself."The DDFL isn't a science-driven party. The DFL is an ideology-driven political party. The DFL is drivn by whatever their campaign financiers tell them to do.
