KARE11's A.J. Legoe unearths more trouble for DFL

Buried deep within this article is something that should disturb every Minnesotan. According to A.J. Legoe's article, he wrote "KARE’s investigation has now discovered DHS was repeatedly warned about Start Today Hennepin’s billing practices for more than a year, including that at least three clients had been billed after they had died."

That paragraph opens up a bunch of questions. First, are the people at Minnesota's Department of Human Services that disinterested in their job that they ignored these warnings? Next, how likely is it that these Department of Human Services got corrupted? I'd hate to think that they were getting kickbacks from Start Today Hennepin but it's something that must be investigated. Third, is the Minnesota Deparrtment of Human Services investigating what went wrong?

Fourth, have any workers gotten disciplined because of this? If not, why not? Fifth, why did it take so long to shut down this for-profit company. After all, "This case is part of a larger pattern of alleged fraud tied to STH, which has received more than $8.2 million in payments, according to state data, making it the top biller in Minnesota’s HSS program since its inception."

This is infuriating:

According to KARE11's figures, Minnesota has spent $257,408,156 in Medicaid dollars since 2020-2024. Even in that first year (2020), which was projected to cost "$2.6 million," the actual total came in at $3,223,733. That's over the projected cost by almost 25%.

We now know that Start Today Hennepin forged billing documents while imposing quotas on their employees. Is it possible to get those artificial bills paid without willing participants helping inside Minnesota's Department of Human Services?

The more information we find, the slimier I feel. When I finish this article, I'll need a hot shower to wash the filth off. Finally, this is totally on the DFL. This program started well after Tim Pawlenty left office in January, 2011. HSS started in 2020. The legislature funds the departments through the budget. The Executive Branch operates the government. Since January of 2011, the DFL has controlled the Executive branch. Period.
