Breaking: School shooting in South Minneapolis
Fox9 is also reporting "The Richfield Police Department is reporting there are up to 20 victims. 'A man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported at the scene,' the Richfield PD said." According to Fox9, "The church and school are on the 500 block of West 54th Street in south Minneapolis, near the intersection of 54th and Lyndale."
KARE11 is reporting "Authorities said the shooter has since been 'contained'and there's no lingering threat to the public. An army of police and paramedics arrived at Annunciation Church, 509 W. 54th Street around 8:30 a.m., where Richfield police reported a man dressed in black and armed with a rifle was spotted on the scene. Police confirm there are approximately 20 victims, but did not share details of their status."
I have relatives living in south Minneapolis, though I don't know where they live in relation to this shooting. The important thing is that each of the stations is reporting that "there is no active threat to the community." That's a big relief for me because my relatives are Catholic. Knowing that the shooter has been "contained" is a big deal to me. Then there's this:
The school is for kindergarten through eighth-graders. They started school on Monday. They have mass at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesdays, and students were reportedly in mass at the time of the shooting.Authorities will be updating the people shortly. Obviously, this is the personification of a 'fluid situation' so I'll keep commentary limited at this point. As I learn more and things get confirmed, I'll have a seperate article. The FBI, ATF, Minnesota State Patrol, and local authorities are on the scene.
