Tom Emmer cross-examines Tim Walz during sanctuary state hearing

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer cross-examined Tim Walz, Minnesota's ultraliberal DFL governor, during Thursday's House OvErsight Committee hearing. During his opening statement, Gov. Walz stated "We have a broken immigration system in this country. I think everyone in this room agrees with that, but nothing Minnesota has done to serve its own people stands in the way of the federal government managing border security and policies."

Actually, most Republicans would dispute that statement. We had a broken immigration system during the 4 years of the Biden administration because Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas refused to enforce boprder laws. Further, they lied and said that the border was closed when the border was wide open. Additionally, the Biden administration insisted that Congress needed to pass a semi-bipaprtisan bill to fix the problem.

The problem for Democrats is that Presaident Trump fixed the border within a month oof starting his second term in office. Illegal border crossings are down 90+ percent since chaasing the Biden administration from office. That's proof that the system isn't broken. We just neededd a real president instead of relying on an old fart whose brain has turned to apple sauce. Enter House Majority Whip Tom Emmer. Rep. Emmer laid a major ass-kicking on Gov. Walz when it was time for his turn to cross-examine Govs. Walz, Pritzker and Hochul:

“On May 23, 2018, you tweeted, quote, ‘I support policies that keep law enforcement from enforcing federal laws.’ Close quote,” Emmer began. He continued:

On May 17, just this spring, at the University of Minnesota Law School's commencement ceremony, you said, quote, "Donald Trump's modern day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets." When you said the words "modern day Gestapo," you were referring to ICE agents.

Gestapo, by the way, sir, was the official secret police of Hitler's Nazi Germany, so you're calling ICE agents modern day Nazis. Given the attacks on ICE agents that took place in Los Angeles over the weekend, don't you regard your dangerous, inflammatory rhetoric as a problem?

So, sir, it saddens me that you refuse to express regret from comparing ICE to Nazis. ICE agents are brave Americans who get up every morning, leave their families, and put their lives in harm's way to protect our country, sir. You, at the very least, owe an apology to these dedicated public servants. I will say, sir, inflammatory rhetoric such as yours and the other governors on this panel is responsible for putting a target on the back of every ICE agent who is risking their life to protect our communities.

House Majority Whip Emmer also highlighted the fact that, although Minnesota hasn't passed a law officially designating Minnesota as a sanctuary state, it's still a sanctuary state by virtue of its action. In May of 2023, Gov. Walz signed into law a bill that gives illegal aliens free health care. Gov. Walz also signed the Higher Education bill that give them free tuition for college. In March of 2023, Walz signed the Drivers Licenses for All bill.

I'd love hearing Gov. Walz explain the difference between Minnesota and a sanctuary state. Perhaps Gov. Walz is just trying too hard to be too-clever-by-half. Too bad he didn't noitice that we aren't buying Gov. Walz's good ole boy schtick anymore. He got exposed during his time on the national ticket. Now he's just damaged goods.
