The Democrats' toughness disadvantage
Ms. Walter replied "I think that's true, and I do think that's why it's been so interesting to watch the Democratic response, especially of Democratic leaders, not just in the state, but nationally. To Tam's point about this is a fight that Donald Trump wants, Democrats know that too. They can see the poll numbers. They remember 2020. They remember 2024."
She then continues, saying "And when it comes to issues like this, whether it's crime, whether it is, and now, today, on the issue of immigration, Donald Trump has the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't have on a lot of other issues. So this is a fight that he wants to have. What Democrats are saying is, let's not give him more fuel to keep this fight going."
This isn't the battlefield Democrats want to fight on. This battlefield is filled with lions, aka Trumpians. Meanwhile, the battlefield is filled with sheep for Demmocrats.
According to Sen. John Kennnedy, the situation is simple. We've got a "wolf problem." Further, Mayor Bass and Gov. Newsom are sheep. It's time to pick what's behind "door # 3", aka the Marines. Check this out:
It's time to unleash the Marines. You won't defeat wolves by deploying sheep. It just won't work. The question going forward, I think, is how Democrats do talk about these issues, it's going to be really important for the — not just what's happening today in Los Angeles, but just writ large. I think there has been a lot of pullback and a lot of hand-wringing from Democrats about an issue which they used to have an advantage on during the — Trump's first term, they have a disadvantage on now.If Democrats don't get this policy right, which they haven't thus far, they'll be hiding for quite some time. This issue isn't going away. And how Democrats respond to whether this is going to happen in other states, how they address concerns about safety and security, that is going to be critical just for the next — well, forever long.
