Melissa Hortman and husband assassinated in their home

Saturday morning brought horrific news to Minnesotans when it was reported that Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband had been shot and killed by a man who wore a police officer's uniform. At the press conference, it was reported that the man drove a vehicle that looked like a police officer's SUV. Eventually, the man was identified as Vance Boelter, age 57.

Police officers originally responded to a 9-1-1 call at the home of Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffmann. It was later reported that the officers that responded to the Hoffmann 9-1-1 call took the initiative to check on Speaker Hortman's home because her home in Brooklyn Park is just 5 miles from Hoffmann's home in Champlin.

Upon arriving at Hortman's home, they spotted a police SUV. That's when they came face-to-face with Boelter. Boelter ran back inside Hortman's home, then escaped through another door. Boelter is still a fugitive as this article is published. He's considered armed and dangerous.

Police have paired up, meaning that extreme caution is urged if a 6'1" 220 lb. guy wearing a police uniform approaches your door. Further, police found a manifesto in the fake vehicle. Included in the manifesto were the names of other DFL legislators.

A manifesto identifying other lawmakers was found in the vehicle, along with papers that said "No Kings" on them, police say.

A law enforcement official who saw the suspect's hit list told FOX 9 the suspect’s list targets prominent pro-choice individuals in Minnesota, including many Democratic lawmakers who have been outspoken about pro-choice policy positions.

This Fox9 report gives us lots of details that are disturbing:

This partial timeline is helpful:
About 2 a.m. on June 14: A 911 call in Champlin was made at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Police then found that Minnesota Sen. Hoffman and his wife had been shot. Both Hoffman and his wife are recovering from gunshot wounds after undergoing surgery at the hospital.

3:35 a.m.: Brooklyn Park police officers then "proactively" went to the home of Rep. Hortman, authorities say. It was there that they encountered the suspect, who was dressed up as an officer with a fake police vehicle. The suspect opened fire on officers, but the suspect fled. In the suspect's vehicle, authorities found a manifesto with lawmakers' names on it and papers with "No Kings" written on them.

As of this morning, Vance Boelter is still a fuguitive.
