The DFL's all-or-nothing strategy on Medicaid

This morning, I received Rep. Mary Franson's weekly legislative update. This update is an especially important update because there's just 10 days left in the regular session. Rep. Franson writes "One of the major holdups, as I’ve mentioned before, is the Democrats’ push to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants through the Health omnibus bill. MinnesotaCare was never meant to cover those here illegally, but Democrats are refusing to adjust eligibility requirements. Instead, they’re threatening to defund the entire program if they can’t get their way. This puts thousands of Minnesotans at risk of losing coverage just so Democrats can protect benefits for people who are not in this country legally. It’s a reckless move that prioritizes illegal immigrants over Minnesota taxpayers and undermines the integrity of a program that was designed to help our own. The number of illegal immigrants that have enrolled in the program continues to increase, as of May 1st the number is around 20,200 individuals."

We're on the verge of a major projected deficit! Despite that fact, the DFL is insisting on Minnesota taxpayers subsidizing health care for illegal aliens. There's an old saying that goes like this: Don't tell me your priorities. Show me your budget and I'll tell you what your priorities are.

The DFL's priorities don't align with Minnesota's priorities. That's because the DFL is putting the priorities of illegal aliens ahead of people living legally in Minnesota. Why isn't the DFL putting legal Minnesotans first?

At this point, the DFL is on the verge of not passing a budget before June 30 deadline. Earlier this month, the DFL worked out an agreement on K-12 funding, only to have DFL members on the House Rules Committee sabotage the agreement. At this point, the DFL is a mess.

At this point, the DFL can't be trusted. They agreed to a K-12 budget, then renegedon that. Now they're fighting to give illegal aliens 'free' health care, which is actually paid for by Minnesota's taxpayers. In this report, the DFL insists that paying for illegal aliens' health care is a net positive for taxpayers:

That's a pile of BS. That won't save taxpayers a penny. Further, it's just a ploy to keep this alive. The DFL is thoroughly reckless with their budgeting. During the DFL Trifecta year, Tim Walz promised taxpayers a $2,000 Walz Check. Instead, we got a $260 Walz Check. And a $10,000,000,000 tax increase. This year, after they spent the entire $18,000,000,000 projected surplus, they want taxpayers to foot the bill forillegal aliens' health care bills. The only reason hospitals are on board with this is so they get paid. It isn't because it's a great policy.

There are 20,200 illegal aliens who've enrolled in expanded Medicaid. When it was passed in 2023, it was estimated to attrat 7,741 illegal aliens. Today's updated figure is triple that original projection. If we don't sto this program, that figure will continue growing rapidly. TO THE DFL: We aren't ATMs. We're hardworking people.
