Is the Pete Hegseth confirmation tide turning?
At this moment, it looks like the only nominee Trump might lose is his nominee to be his Labor secretary. According to this article, it looks like the Democrats' smear campaign is fading, thanks in large part to the structural deficiencies of the campaign. For instance, the Hegseth campaign is based entirely on anonymous sources. If you're going for the king, you need something sturdier than that. That won't take out the king.
By cocmparison, "is shoring up support from key Republican senators as a concerted smear campaign against him based on years-old allegations from anonymous sources has been disputed by many on-the-record." Smear campaigns built on anonymous sources are easily demolished by rebuttals by on-the-record coworkers. After watching how Adam Schiff lied about 'Russia! Russia! Russia!, people aren't willing to trust anymore. People know that the media can't be trusted anymore. The Legacy Media won't get the benefit of the doubt much anymore and they shouldn't. Trust is earned, not given.
On Wednesday, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), the incoming Senate Majority Leader, voiced support for Hegseth, according to a Washington Examiner journalist. This is big, too: Hegseth said something during the interview that I found inspirational. Hegseth said "I can't wait for an FBI investigation. Can't wait. How soon can they start? Because that gives them to do a real investigation. What the media is doing is a witch hunt." Hegseth said that with total conviction. This isn't coming from a man who's doubting whether he can hide things from the media. Nobody has that much conviction in the midst of the storm. Then there's this:I think he articulates a good vision, a strong vision for the Department of Defense, which I think is in need of some modernization and reform. He’s obviously an experienced veteran, combat veteran, so he brings a lot of experience about what the warfighters’ needs are and how to keep America ready for the potential battles of the future.
Thune's endorsement is important. This is his first fight since becoming the Majority Leader-Elect. He didn't hesitate. That sends the signal that he's got other people's backs, too. Finally, there's this:Thune on his meeting with Hegseth: “I think he articulates a good vision, a strong vision for the Department of Defense, which I think is in need of some modernization and reform.”

Here's hoping that Hegseth gets confirmed. I want a decorated combat vet leading the DOD.Scoop: The trustee of the veterans advocacy group where Pete Hegseth served as president denied in 2016 that the current defense secretary-designee was forced out of the position due to drinking and other misconduct, directly contradicting whistleblowers who spoke with the New… pic.twitter.com/OkI3lRtKIo
