Leslie Marshall vs. Donald Trump, the art of the negotiation edition

This morning on Outnumbered, the panel spent a segment talking about the tariffs that Donald Trump announced Monday. Just to refresh people's memories on the tariffs, let's reference ABC's article on the tariffs. The article opens by saying "President-elect Donald Trump is making good on his tariff promises, saying Monday he plans to impose them on Mexico, Canada and China in an effort to stop the flow of drugs entering the country and illegal border crossings."

This isn't surprising to anyone who hasn't been comatose the last 8+ years. Newly-appointed Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent said over the weekend that the Trump Doctrine on tariffs is to use them as a negotiating tool. That's what Trump's done in the past (see Mexico, 2019, Remain in Mexico negotiations) so it's totally predictable for Trump to use them as a stick against Canada, China and Mexico, especially to force their hand in drug trafficking and illegal border crossings.

Part of Trump's tweet says "On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders. This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!"

On Outnumbered, liberal lefty talk show host Leslie Marshall played the softie, saying that she wanted the drugs to stop flowing acrooss the TX-Mex border but she wasn't a fan of the U.S. imposing its will on "our neighbors." She hinted that she'd rather just negotiate quietly with our neighbors. Apparently, she doesn't understand that corrupted nations like Mexico won't do what we want them to do if we don't apply leverage to them.

In this segment (a little more than 9 minutes in) Marshall said that she isn't a fan of strong-arm tactics with our neighbors:

I particularly enjoyed Kayleigh McEnany replying "How did that work for the Biden administration?" ANSWER: It didn't.

The Trump administration, which is 55 days away from getting sworn in, is already sending messages to the troops. Check this out:

Before he's officially President Trump's border czar, Tom Homan paid a visit to the troops. The messaage sent was to tell the troops that they'd have a partner starting on Jan. 20, 2025. WQhene VP Harris was named Biden's border czar, she didn't visit the border for over a year. Even then, she didn't visit an invasion hot-spot. She visited El Paso after it'd been scrubbed clean of any evidence of an invasion.
