Donald Trump fills out his cabinet

President-Elect Trump picked most of the rest of his economic team, picking Scott Bessent a his Treasury Secretary, Russ Vought to be his OMB Director, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat to be his Surgeon General, Dr. Marty Makary to head the FDA and Dave Weldon to run the CDC.

I'm excited to see Dr. Makary and Dr. Nesheiwat nominated to their posts with the FDA and the U.S. Surgeon General respectively. Despite the fact that Makary is overqualified for the job, NBC is running interference for Democrats. They've written "President-elect Donald Trump on Friday nominated Dr. Marty Makary, a pancreatic surgeon at Johns Hopkins University who's made controversial claims about Covid, as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration." There's nothing controversial about Dr. Makary's COVID claims. Dr. Makary just disagreed with Biden administration orthodoxy. He wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in which he proclaimed the virtues of natural immunity. At the time, the Biden administration was pushsing its doctrine that everyone had to be fully vaccinated. It's now accepted as fact that natural immunity is effective and that people don't automatically need to be fully vaccinated. Because he relied on data from well-respected studies, not on the Biden administration, he's now considered controversial. In the real world, we'd consider him right. QUESTION: Would you rather trust Dr. Makary or Dr. Fauci?

I especially like Russ Vought as OMB Director, too. In this new administration, he'll work with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy at DOGE to reduce the deficit and put the U.S. on a path to paying down the debt. Scott Bessent will be tasked to do the same thing from his position atop the Treasury Department. This is Special Report's segment on Trump's pick for Treasury:

While Trump hasn't nailed all of his picks, it's still shaping up to be a pretty strong set on all fronts. Trump's national security team is superb. Trump's economic team is better than solid. It remains to be seen whether Trump gets his team connnfirmed on health. If they're confirmed, though, it'll be a strong unit.

  1. Vought is as stellar a pick as Hegseth. You treat Bessent as an afterthought. He's not Kudlow, but that is to his credit. He's bright. You haven't written enough about Hegseth.

    1. Fair points, Eric. I was in a little bit of a hurry to finish the article. I'll follow up on that this afternoon.
