DFL ignores First Amendment via Minnesota Human Rights Act
Rep. Harry Niska, (R-Ramsey), led the fight to restore those protections. Unfortunately, Rep. Niska's amendment was defeated. According to the article, "Republicans in the Minnesota Legislature have been met with resistance and hostility in their attempt to restore protections for religious institutions that disagree with the state’s views on gender. Sen. Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, put forward an amendment to a bill during a committee hearing early Tuesday morning that 'restores the exemption in the Minnesota Human Rights Act that protects religious organizations and faith-based schools against claims of gender identity discrimination.'"
Parents and legislators should put the Upper Midwest Law Center on their speed-dial for their federal lawsuit that charges the legislature with violating these religious institutions' First Amendment rights. Rep. Walter Hudson lays things out perfectly in this interview:
This isn't subtle. The DFL stated emphatically in the eHouse that they were willfully breaking their oath of office. This wasn't a mistake. They didn't try to tiptoe up to the line without crossing that line. They confidently walked right past that line and said 'I dare you to challenge me.'I'm not known for being diplomatic so I won't attempt it here. Challenge accepted. Be prepared to get your Fani paddled by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn thought she could do whatever she wanted to do. She's about to find out that the First Amendment has some teeth in it. Here's hoping the Eighth Circuit leaves its mark in her butt. (And then some.) She deserves it because she's shown that she thinks that she's above the law.
Those are the people that deserve a righteous comeuppance and then some. Here's hoping that the DFL gets an epic comeuppance for the ages. They've earned it.
