Joe Biden's 2024 campaign strategy

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out Joe Biden's 2024 campaign strategy. Kim Strassel wrote about it in her latest Potomac Watch column in the WSJ. She wrote "It was no surprise Mr. Biden dropped into his State of the Union monologue the false claim that the GOP plans to cut Medicare and Social Security. Sen. Rick Scott gave Democrats that opening before the midterms when he released an agenda featuring the unradical proposal that Congress should occasionally review the programs it funds. The White House has been beating the topic ever since, though without much traction."

First, Republicans shouldn't be unprepared for this attack, though we shouldn't spring the counteroffensive on Biden just yet. I'll just say that Biden doesn't have a perfect record on entitlements compared with his position today. In fact, he's got a significant vulnerability on the issue.

Next, Republicans shouldn't let Rick Scott within 1,000 miles of the next Senate campaign. He's as toxic as Donald Trump is with suburban voters. Scott's political instincts are terrible. Scott accused Biden of cutting Medicare by $280,000,000,000. That attack was weak because Scott accused Biden of cutting Medicare. The Republicans' attack, if played properly, will use Biden' own words against him. Accusations can be denie. Videos of the candidate saying that he's cutting Medicare and Social Security are bullet-proof. This is Scott's ad:

In this Mr. Biden has a fascinating wingman—Donald Trump himself. Mr. Trump’s opposition to entitlement reform isn’t new, but he’s now doubling down—seeing it as a way to distinguish himself in a primary field and to hobble Mr. DeSantis or others. He recently warned House Republicans not to touch "a single penny" of entitlements in their debt-ceiling discussions and rolled out an old video of Mr. DeSantis praising Mr. Ryan.
The bad news for Biden and Trump is that Speaker McCarthy took entitlements off the table 2-3 weeks ago in connection with the debt ceiling negotiations.

Third, Gov. DeSantis has a fantastic weapon to wield against Biden -- inflation. Seniors living on fixed incomes are getting hurt by inflation. Bidenflation has been running rampant for 2+ years. Biden can't hide from that, though he's tried by calling it "Putin's price hike." That didn't work, partially because Biden immediately took credit for gas prices dropping. Criticizing Putin when prices jump, then taking credit when prices drop is the perfect way to have it both ways.

That might work with some people put I'm betting it won't work with seniors. They've seen too much to buy into Biden's BS.

Ms. Strassel puts it perfectly when she wrote "Mr. Biden will only get as much purchase from this issue as Republicans allow. The GOP needs to play it straight and smart, and remember that voters aren’t as dumb as the press thinks they are."

Anyone that thinks that Tim Walz, Minnesota's DFL governor, doesn't care about preventing crime or fraud hasn't read this article . Alpha News is reporting that "The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has confirmed that Dylan Adams, the fiscal policy analyst caught on video vandalizing Teslas in Minneapolis, is still employed by the state — meaning Minnesota taxpayers are footing the bill for his salary. In response to Alpha News inquiries, a DHS spokesperson said: "Dylan Adams is a current employee." Apparently, the Walz administration doesn't care that it's employing a vandal in its Department of Human Services. As for whether Adams "has faced consequences for racking up more than $21,000 in damage during work hours , the agency offered little transparency.
