Comparing Florida with New York

It isn't often that we get the data to make major conclusions about New York's losing fight against the Free State of Florida. I'm especially thankful for the WSJ compiling some factoids and putting them into this article. Saying that the comparisons are stunning is understatement.

The WSJ editorial opens by saying "Comparative governance is a useful course of study, not least because bad governance is so costly to people and prosperity. We often write about the migration from the Northeast to Florida and other states, but sometimes the contrast is best illuminated with some data." What jumps off the page in the chart is the state budget differential between the states and the states' populations. Check this out:

The population difference is 2,567,672. Meanwhile, the state budget difference is gigantic. Florida's operating budget is half of New York's operating budget. On a per person basis, Florida spends $5160 per person. New York spends $11,536 per person. According to this video, Florida's economy grew by 17%; New York State's economy grew by 8% (but states adjusted for inflation) from 2016-2021:

The "Blue State Exodus" (Kudlow's term for it) shows that the 524,079 people that left New York State essentially voted themselves a tax cut by leaving the State. Similarly, the 509,903 people who left California gave themselves a tax cut by leaving California. The 706,597 people that moved to Florida gave themselves a tax cut. Opportunities in Florida abound, especially opportunities for a great education and great entrepreneurial opportunities. Opportunities abound in NY State, too. Unfortunately, the abundant opportunities in NY State are to be a crime victim.

I'll just hazard a guess and predict that more people will opt for the Florida-type of opportunities than will opt for NY State-type of 'opportunities'. This paragraph is eye-popping:

These comparative statistics don’t tell the whole story about the quality of life in the two states, for better or worse. But they do show that better governance yields better fiscal and economic results. And those results in turn attract more people, which contributes to faster growth and more tax revenue without an income tax. We don’t expect the denizens of Albany to care, but they should.
John Kennedy often says that our nation was built by geniuses but is run by idiots:

Right now, I'd bet the proverbial ranch that the idiots live in NY State. The geniuses live in Florida.

Proof that Tim Walz doesn't care about fraud or other crime

Anyone that thinks that Tim Walz, Minnesota's DFL governor, doesn't care about preventing crime or fraud hasn't read this article . Alpha News is reporting that "The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has confirmed that Dylan Adams, the fiscal policy analyst caught on video vandalizing Teslas in Minneapolis, is still employed by the state — meaning Minnesota taxpayers are footing the bill for his salary. In response to Alpha News inquiries, a DHS spokesperson said: "Dylan Adams is a current employee." Apparently, the Walz administration doesn't care that it's employing a vandal in its Department of Human Services. As for whether Adams "has faced consequences for racking up more than $21,000 in damage during work hours , the agency offered little transparency.
