Tim Walz's mishandling of COVID led to closing Wild Greg's Saloon
Urban noted that his saloons "in Austin, Texas, and in Pensacola and Lakeland, Florida" are thriving. The article notes that "The restaurant and entertainment scene in Minneapolis was devastated by crippling COVID restrictions dating back to March 2020, followed by riots in the summer of 2020." Leadership matters. Unfortunately, Walz and Frey didn't provide that leadership. Thanks to that leadership void, Urban is opting for sites in business-friendly states like Texas and Florida.
Independent videographer Rebecca Brannon noted on her Twitter feed that Urban had closed his Minneapolis saloon effective immediately. Included in her tweet was Urban's letter explaining his decision:
This says everything:The number of daily diners in Minneapolis was down an average of 54.3% from July 2019 to July 2022 — less than half as many people eating out now than before pandemic lockdowns, according to data from restaurant reservation service OpenTable. It was the worst COVID recovery rate of any city in the world tracked by OpenTable. Some of this problem has to do with Frey's policing policies. Another part of this crisis has to do with Walz's erratic COVID decision-making. The Frey-Walz policies are a devastating 1-2 punch to businesses. Nobody feels safe. Nobody knows what the next policy change might bring. In that situation, the best thing to do, if it's possible, is move to a state that appreciates your business.Meanwhile, the average number of people dining out across Florida in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Naples and Tampa has surged nearly 30% from July 2019 to July 2022, according to the same source.
In the end, that's the worst indictment of Gov. Walz.
