Kim Strassel: Is Biden electable?

Image
Each week, I enjoy reading Kim Strassel's Potomac Watch column. This week's column is titled "Is Joe Biden electable?" The subtitle is "Democrats bet it all on a weak horse in the 2024 presidential race, sure that his opponent is even weaker." The text of Ms. Strassel's article suggests that she thinks a Biden-Trump rematch is what Democrats hope for and that America doesn't want. That isn't surprising. Despite a couple of semi-OK recent interviews, Trump is still quite unappealing. As Ms. Strassel puts it, "A polarizing candidate who is a nonstarter with key general-election voting blocs." I've spilled tons of ink saying that Trump has spent too much time alienating women, especially suburban women. After Trump's disastrous interview with Bret Baier, in which Mr. Trump is asked how he plans on getting women voters back , Trump said he won the 2020 election. That’s a claim only Donald Trump would accept as semi-credible. Bill M...

Joe Biden's Bidenomics/dishonesty tour, Part II

Image
The best way to determine if Joe Biden is lying is through sight. If his lips are moving, it's likely that he's lying. Another way to tell if Joe's lying is if he's talking about Bidenomics. Thankfully, Steve Moore has written this wonderful op-ed highlighting Biden's 5 biggest lies. For instance, Joe lied when he said "America is producing record amounts of oil and gas." That's statistically simple to prove as utter dishonesty. Moore replied "A new study by University of Chicago economist Casey Mulligan finds that the United States would be producing roughly 2 million more barrels of oil a day if we had stuck with the Trump pro-American energy production. Oil is selling at $80 a barrel." If we had kept the previous administration's policies intact, we'd be producing 15,000,000 of oil per day. Right now, we're just short of 13,000,000 barrels per day. Another dishonest statement made by Biden is that he's "reduced the bu...

Joe Biden's Bidenomics/lying tour, Part I

Image
I've lived long enough to remember the sleaziest, most dishonest president in U.S. history. His nickname was Tricky Dick Nixon. Let's rephrase that. Richard Milhouse Nixon was the sleaziest president in U.S. history until Joe Biden's inauguration. Biden's dishonesty stretches beyond his selling out the U.S. to nations like China, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. Steve Moore has written this op-ed highlighting Biden's top 5 lies about Bidenomics. According to Biden, "Wages and salaries are rising for American workers." Moore replied "That WAS true in the month of July. But in 20 of the past 22 months, wages have fallen BELOW inflation. The math here is simple. Since Biden entered office, wages and salaries are up roughly 12%. And inflation is up 15%." Moore is right. The math is simple. Joe Biden’s statement that "wages and salaries are rising for American workers" is true if an asterisk is included. That statement is true if people doesn...

Ron DeSantis' latest non-scandal

Image
I just got an email from the Trump campaign highlighting the latest high-profile non-scandal involving Gov. Ron DeSantis. According to the Reuters article, "The DeSantis campaign, a super PAC linked to him and a nonprofit group supporting him together paid $95,000 in recent months to the Family Leader Foundation, an Iowa-based nonprofit led by evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats, according to campaign finance reports and a document prepared by an Iowa state lawmaker who was helping the Vander Plaats organization raise money for a July 14 presidential candidate forum." The Trump campaign email said "WOW—it looks like Ron DeSanctimonious has been exposed for trying to "buy" the endorsement of Bob Vander Plaats for nearly $100,000. This totally and completely makes any future endorsement compromised. What does this say about DeSanctus, whose numbers are dropping like a rock, that he has to try to "buy" endorsements? Not a good look!" What is this ...

Goodhue Police Department quits

Image
The entire police department for the city of Goodhue, MN, notified their city council that their last day of work for the city will be Aug. 24. Police Chief Josh Smith and six officers submitted their resignations. Then Chief Smith said "Right now, currently trying to hire at $22 an hour, you’re never going to see another person again walk through those doors. It’s been three weeks now, we have zero applicants and I have zero prospects. I’ve called every PD around looking for the youngest guys out there looking to get into the game, and there’s no one getting into the game. Those that are are getting scooped up immediately and going to the Cities." What's needed is what I call politician reform. That's where DFL politicians in the Twin Cities Metro area side with their constituents in berating police officers. That's caused lots of Metro officers to retire or move to red states, where the societies take law enforcement more seriously than politicians take crimina...

Bidenomics' Definition

Image
Joe Biden got pushed into accepting the term Bidenomics. He didn't really want to defend that term but he didn't have much of a choice. It's like the old story about a guy getting run out of town. Rather than look like he's getting run out of town, he puts a smile on his face and acts like he's leading a parade. Let's be clear about something before we get into the technical definition of Bidenomics. It isn't the economy, Stupid. It's the inflation, Stupid. The economy is creating jobs, which Joe Biden robotically reminds us of each month. I'm happy that we're at full employment. It's time to teach people what a job is. A job is a vehicle a person uses to acquire wealth so they can live the American Dream. It's a vehicle that individuals or families use to increase their standards of living. When the right economic policies are put in place, jobs are plentiful and secure. Bidenomics' definition Bidenomics is the condition when individ...

Inflation Reduction Act turns one

Image
Jason Smith, the chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, doesn't like the Inflation Reduction Act. Steve Forbes, the chairman of Forbes Media, doesn't like it either. Forbes thinks the bill should be titled "the Bad for the Economy Act." That's according to Smith's op-ed , which Fox News published. Smith didn't mince words or bury the lede in his op-ed, writing "It has been one year since Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats passed their signature Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) – a disastrous law that did nothing to address inflation and is now confirmed to have added hundreds of billions to the deficit. President Biden himself, in a recent, rare moment of candor, even said he wishes he had named the IRA something different since it 'has less to do with reducing inflation.'" As chair of the tax-writing committee in the House, Smith if well-informed on the effects of tax provisions within the IRA. In his op-ed, Smith wrote this: ...
