Jeff Johnson -- Minnesota's solutions-oriented candidate

If there's anything that gets former St. Cloud City Councilman Jeff Johnson motivated, it's when he hears a politician spew a litany of things that are wrong with Minnesota. As Jeff's campaign manager, I can state with total specificity that we have a nickname for such rants. We call them litanies. Litanies as in 'when do we get to the solutions?' In Jeff's op-ed, which Alpha News published today, Jeff wrote "Thanks to the DFL trifecta led by Gov. Walz, we have seen foolish spending and massive proposed tax increases for 2026. The exodus of the rich, middle class, and businesses is expected to continue. Our educational system is a failure as evidenced by poor test scores and school violence."

We know the problems because we're living them. We don't need a CPI report to tell us that we're paying too much for groceries or gas. Lived experiences tell us that when we pull into a grooocery store or gas station. To be fair, though, to President Trump, the vast majority of the damage was done during Biden's administration. Here's proof:

But I digress. Jeff then wrote this:
Politicians come and go, so why am I any different?

Like someone interviewing for a job, appearance and presentation are important but equally so are accomplishments. A well-articulated young recruit fresh out of bootcamp may look impressive on a resume, but this is not the same as a middle-aged special forces soldier who served two terms in Afghanistan. This is about telling people about your accomplishments and solutions. Thanks to my service on the St. Cloud City Council, I’m battle-tested, having fought for transparency and against corruption.

In November 2017, I stood alone on the Council while facing various threats opposing my refugee resettlement moratorium. Media in Minnesota, New York, Florida and beyond contacted me looking for a juicy story. The proposed moratorium (not a ban) addressed the violation of federal statutes aimed at increasing transparency—imagine how important that would’ve been in preventing Medicaid fraud!

Although I wasn’t initially successful in implementing the moratorium with my lone affirmative vote, I eventually got Lutheran Social Services (LSS) to comply with federal statutes (see 8 USC 1522) requiring “state and local officials to be consulted” before refugees are placed directly into a refugee resettlement city. LSS reluctantly started holding quarterly public meetings as stated in 8 USC 1522 so taxpayers could see how and where their tax dollars were being spent. It’s a bit ironic that LSS was led by then-President/CEO Jodi Harpstead in 2017. Gov. Walz later appointed Harpstead to be Minnesota’s DHS commissioner, who stepped down earlier this year.

As I've said multiple times before, Jeff's fought these fights already. Proverbially speaking, Jeff knows where the bodies are buried, what tricks have been played in the past. He's seen the games that the special interests have played:

Jeff's expertise on refugee resettlement earned him an invitation to Washington, DC, to talk to the Center for Immigration Studies. Before you start thinking that Jeff is a one-trick pony, consider the fact that Jeff has a Ph.D. in Higher Education administration and that he's been awarded a patent by the U.S. Patent Office.

While Jeff doesn't have the name recognition of some of the other candidates, I'm confident that Jeff is more than capable of going toe-to-toe with any of the other candidates, including Gov. Walz. Minnesota needs a freh voice and perspective to dig us out of the hole the Tim Walz and Joe Biden put us in. While I won't criticize the other GOP candidates, I'm more than prepared to criticize Tim Walz's asleep-at-the-switch 'leadership'. Not noticing billions of dollars left the state is unforgiveable. If Jeff impresses you, we'd love to have your support. Click here to support our solutions-oriented movement.
