Hakeem Jeffries, speed bump against prosperity, safety
According to FNC, "The House of Representatives' progress on President Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' has temporarily come to a screeching halt thanks to the chamber's top Democrat. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., began speaking in the chamber minutes before 5 a.m. and appears to be poised for hours more." It's now afternoon in D.C. but there's no sign that Jeffries is paying attention to the will of the people. Jeffries isn't reading the room right. Jeffries apparently hasn't heard about the principle of creating a backlaah. Still, that's what he's doing.
Like with Sen. Schumer, Jeffries and House Democrats are focusing on Republicans' Medicaid reform. In 1992, Bill Clinton ran on the slogan of "ending welfare as we know it." Clintoin's Democrats mutinied against him, requiring him to form an alliance with then-Speaker Gingrich. When Gingrich was interviewed by Larry Kudlow 4 years ago, Gingrich offered insights into welfare reform:
When this One Big Beautiful Bill passes today or, at minimum, this weekend, most of the provisions from the Clinton-Gingrich workfare reforms will be included in the One Big Beautiful Bill. With the economy picking up again, it's likely that these provisions will work, too. That frightens Democrats. Those provisions might, as Gingrich taught, transform society. That isn't what Democrats want. Widespread prosperity is the last thing Democrats want.In the end, Hakeem Jeffries' speech took up lots of time but npot much else. He wasted lots of people's time but he didn't flip a single GOP vote. That's the definition of a waste of time.
