Donald Trump, Franklin Graham visit hurricane-stricken Valdosta, GA

While it's true that Donald Trump took a few jabs at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, it's also true that he raised $1.7 million in disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Helene. When he visited Valdosta, GA, he brought lots of the supplies purchased with that $1.7 million. That's a major shot in the arm for Valdosta, GA.

According to this Western Journal article, Trump praised GA Gov. Kemp and Samaritan's Purse, saying "The governor’s doing a very good job. He’s having a hard time getting the president on the phone. I guess they’re not being responsive enough. The federal government is not being responsive. He won’t get on [the phone] and of course the vice president, she’s out someplace campaigning, looking for money."

The hurricane hit Thursday night before midnight. It's now Tuesday am, a wait of 3+ days. During that time, Biden was seen vacationing on the beach in Delaware and Harris was attending fundraisers in California.

There wasn't a sense of urgency displayed by Biden or Harris. Biden said that he made 2 hours of phone calls each of the 2 days of the weekend. That's a step in the positive direction but it isn't showing leadership. It isn't setting the example of making this the nation's highest priority at a time when Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee need to feel like they aren't forgotten.

Part of the solution in Georgia will come from churches and charities. It's impossible to see a rebuilt Georgia without Samaritan's Purse playing a major role in the clean-up and reconstruction. When Trump arrived in Valdosta, Franklin Graham was with him. When asked to speak, Rev. Graham said that they'd need lots of volunteers from across the nation to clean up and rebuild. At the end of this video, Rev. Graham was asked to pray for the storm-ravaged region:

Samritan's Purse is part of the solution. Ditto with charities and churches. Ditto with state and federal governments. With major communications out, Starlink will likely be part of the restoration process, too. In short, it'll take an army of volunteers to rebuild and restore.

I'm confident that's what will happen because that's what the U.S. has done frequently. It's part of who we are.
