Joe Biden's border stumbles finally getting reported; KJP keeps lying

Image
Now that the dam is about to burst on the Tex-Mex border, the networks are getting forced into covering the catastrophe. Bill Melugin stands alone as the preeminent border correspondent. This week, he reported that he'd seen a first . He reported that "The biggest single group we have ever seen during our border coverage crossed illegally into El Paso, Texas." Melugin continued, saying "an enormous migrant caravan of well over 1,000 people crossed illegally into El Paso, one of the biggest mass crossings in the city's history. You can see from this video, wave after wave after wave of hundreds of these migrants just walking across the river and then gathering on the U.S. side of the river. They form a single file line...which at some points goes as far as the eye can see." This isn't just about migrants seeking a better life. It never was just about that, though that's how Biden's administration has consistently characterized it. It's about t...

Is Minneapolis the next DFL bailout?

Image
With the Minnesota state government soon to be under unified DFL control, is there any doubt whether the DFL legislature will spend millions of dollars to rebuild after the George Floyd Riots? Apparently, some high-profile businesses have left downtown Minneapolis or are planning on leaving. Thus far, "Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack recently announced the closure of their department stores in downtown. Ties Lounge & Rooftop, a restaurant specifically created to “revitalize” the downtown area, closed earlier this month." That's just part of the exodus. "The downtown Hilton, the state’s largest hotel, is scheduled to go up for auction early next year after the owners defaulted on their debt, Axios reports. One of the owners blamed "unnecessary" COVID-19 shutdowns for the hotel’s demise." Notice what isn't mentioned in these descriptions? The elephant in the room that isn't being talked about is crime. What's the solution? A blue-ribbon com...

Is the Freedom Caucus interested in accountability or stupidity?

Image
Just when I thought that the Freedom Caucus couldn't help Democrats more, they prove me wrong. According to Ed Morrissey's latest post , members of the Freedom Caucus are negotiating a rule change known as MTV, aka Motion To Vacate. According to Ed's article, the Motion to "vacate is that in the early 1900s, the floor was wide open so any lawmaker could head to the chamber and call for a motion. If it got seconded, you were in business." Right now, the Freedom Caucus is insisting on this provision to provide accountability. That's dishonest in the extreme. This won't provide accountability. It'll produce hesitation and instability. Essentially, it'll mean that the Freedom Caucus will have veto power over the Speakership until the 2024 election. If Kevin McCarthy doesn't do what the Freedom Caucus wants, they can head to the House floor and terminate his speakership. The Freedom Caucus would be wise to consult with the Declaration of Independenc...

McCarthy vs. McConnell budget battle

GOP senators apparently aren't that bright. Based on GOP senators' quotes in this article , establishment Republicans are doing their best to defend Mitch McConnell's indefensible negotiations with Sen. Chuck Schumer on an end-of-year omnibus spending bill, thereby cutting off House Republicans for most of next year. The fight is getting more public, thanks in large part to Kevin McCarthy's criticism of Sen. McConnell on the proposed omnibus spending bill. The omnibus spending bill would fund the federal government for the rest of this fiscal year. Appearing on The Ingraham Angle, McCarthy said "Why would you want to work on anything if we have the gavel inside Congress?" John Thune, McConnell's chief assistant in the Senate, replied "It’s a House-Senate dynamic, and the conference in the House, obviously, a lot of times can be in a different place than the conference in the Senate. I think he’s reflecting what's happening in the House, and he’s, ...

What better time for Mitch McConnell to grow a pair?

Image
Mitch McConnell is up to his old tricks. Let me rephrase that. Mitch McConnell is up to his old trick of capitulation to the Democrats. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Mitch doesn't like shutting down the government. Sen. Schumer has noticed and is taking advantage of Mitch's spinelessness ... again. OTOH, Kevin McCarthy is displaying leadership despite the fact that 5 of his 'teammates' (I'm using that term loosely) are stabbing him in the back. Mitch McConnell isn't a Republican. He's an appropriator who shouldn't be in a position of leadership. It's time for Mitch to go. BTW, Tom Cotton would be a perfect replacement for Mitch. I'd be fine with Marco Rubio, too. But I digress. Bonchie wrote "Republicans are set to take power in less than a month. As McCarthy notes, it is moronic to let Democrats set the agenda for the next year in a lame-duck omnibus bill. That McConnell is even entertaining that when he has the...

Joe Biden's out-of-control SEC

Image
Joe Biden's manic obsession with climate change is actually frightening. It's also likely unconstitutional if James Freeman's op-ed is accurate, which I'm guessing it is. In Freeman's op-ed, he writes "Washington would essentially be forcing every public company, regardless of industry, to focus on climate, while also pressuring them to hire leaders who share this obsession. But even the most climate-obsessed ought to recognize that such change requires a new law , not unelected financial regulators suddenly deciding to appoint themselves ministers of global warming." The SEC's proposed rule is likely unconstitutional because of the Supreme Court's Major Questions Doctrine , which says "In a 6–3 ruling issued on June 30, 2022, the Court ruled that the regulation of existing power plants in Section 7411(d) fell under the major questions doctrine, and within that, Congress did not grant the EPA authority to regulate emissions from existing plan...

Marco Rubio, Mike Gallagher, Raja Krishnamoorthi introduce anti-TikTok bill

Image
Sen. Marco Rubio, (R-FL), Rep. Mike Gallagher, (R-WI), and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, (D-IL), introduced a bipartisan, bicameral bill that would ban TikTok in the U.S. Sen. Rubio said "The federal government has yet to take a single meaningful action to protect American users from the threat of TikTok. This isn’t about creative videos; this is about an app that is collecting data on tens of millions of American children and adults every day. We know it's used to manipulate feeds and influence elections. We know it answers to the People’s Republic of China. There is no more time to waste on meaningless negotiations with a CCP-puppet company. It is time to ban Beijing-controlled TikTok for good." Rep. Gallagher added " TikTok is digital fentanyl that’s addicting Americans, collecting troves of their data, and censoring their news . It’s also an increasingly powerful media company that’s owned by ByteDance , which ultimately reports to the Chinese Communist Party , A...
