Amy Klobuchar's constitutional cynicism
The last time that Congress declared war was right after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942. That's 75+ years ago. More than a few Constitutional law scholars have argued that presidents have the inherent authority to wage war through the text of Article II of the Constitution. According to these scholars, this inherent right comes from their role as commander-in-chief.
That being said, it's still usually best to have the nation united behind a president before the nation goes to war. Bill Melugin weighs in after making Hakeem Jeffries' life a little uncomfortable:
Notice how Sen. Klobuchar INTENTIONALLY OMITS the fact that Renee Good hit the federal agent after he'd commanded her to get out of the care and before shooting her in an act of self-defense: This is disgusting. The goal of these hearings should be to inform the public, not to score political points. Sen. Klobuchar intentionally picked scoring cheap political points instead of serving ALL of the people of Minnesota. If elected governor (God help us if that happens), Sen. Klobuchar wouldn't be interested in serving all Minnesotans.NEW: I asked House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) about Nancy Pelosi saying in 2011 that President Obama didn't need Congressional approval to bomb Libya, but Dems now say President Trump needs approval to bomb Iran?

Notice, too, how Sen. Klobuchar omits the fact that Pretti carried a concealed handgun into a tense situation, then made things worse by kicking out the tail light of a government vehicle. Trusting the DFL's version of what's happening, especially pertaining to law enforcement, is foolish. Lying through the DFL's omissions is one of the DFL's worst traits. With Sen. Klobuchar, we'd just be getting a female version of Tim Walz's tall tales telling.
