Almanac Roundtable tidbits and notes

Suffice it to say that some of the panelists on Almanac's Roundtable Friday night weren't All-Star quality. I'm specifically talking about Brian McDaniel, a Republican lobbyist and Karla Bigham, a former state legislator and now a Washington County commissioner. Starting with Commissioner Bigham, she's a typical DFL mouthpiece. For instance, she said that the DFL would have "a very strong agenda of wins to defend when it comes to protecting the rights of workers, for educators and also paid family leave, safe and sick time, the family tax credit, all the things, the pro-family agenda..."

Frankly, That's the best she can do. She didn't mention that the DFL spent the entire $17,600,000,000 projected surplus. Commissioner Bigham didn't mention the estimated $10,000,000,000 tax hike to increase state spending by 40% in 2023. That isn't a strong agenda of wins." That's buying votes on a scale never seen before in Minnesota.

As for Mr. McDaniel, when asked how the Senate would change the one big beautiful bill, he replied "Significantly." Implied in McDaniel's message was tht the bill is in trouble. It isn't in difficulty. That's wishful thinking. Period.

Finally, when Bigham was asked for her opinion on Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, she replied "This big beautiful bill adds a lot of to the deficit, kicks a lot of people off health care. It's not popular."

Commissioner Bigham is either economically illiterate or she's spewing the DFL's talking points. It doesn't have anything to do with the truth. This week, the Federal Reserve reported the PCE as coming in at 2.1%, the lowest it's been since a month after Biden took office. As for the popularity of the bill, consumer confidence is up 12 points since the start of 2025. Further, Trump's popullarity is the highest it's been since he started on Jan. 20,2017. In fact, Trump is more popular now than Obama wqas at the same point in his presidency. It's time Commissaioner Bigham stopped being a DFL mouthpiece and started being honest. Tim Walz, Minnesota's DFL governor, testifed last Thursday that Minnesota isn't a sanctuary state. Predictably, Gov. Walz wasn't entirely honest with Tom Emmer during Rep.
