Karen Bass's 15 minutes of infamy?

Apparently, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass is fighting for a spot on California's version of Mount Rushmore alongside Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and the Menendez Brothers. Thanks to Bass's trip to Africa and her leisurely return to L.A., it's safe to say she's sure to get a mean tongue-lashing now that she's home and her city is in crisis.

A portrait in leading from behind

"The Democratic mayor has faced mounting criticism, including from members of her own party, for traveling abroad while L.A. residents were forced to flee by the tens of thousands as the Palisades, Eaton and Hurst fires ripped through Southern California. Two smaller blazes, the Woodley Fire and Lidia Fire, are collectively engulfing around 80 acres in the Greater Los Angeles area as of Wednesday evening."

Will it matter?

Will Bass's mishandling of the L.A. wildfires matter? Will Bass's indifference to this tragedy matter? In times past, it wouldn't have mattered. This video is proof that Californians' attitudes are changing:

The next step in this story is whether people are upset enough to recall Bass. Based on this press availability, I'd say that's a possibility:

Bass stayed mum on Wednesday as Sky News reporter David Blevins pelted her with questions after she arrived back in California.

"Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?" Blevins asked Bass during the confrontation. "Do you regret cutting the fire department's budget by millions of dollars, Madam Mayor? Have you nothing to say today?"

"Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?" he pressed. "Elon Musk says that you are utterly incompetent. Are you considering your position? Madam Mayor, do you have absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster? No apology for them? Do you think you should have been visiting Ghana while this was unfolding back home?"

Just the look on her face indicates that she thinks she's too good to deal with these minions. What a low-life.
