Is Melissa Hortman out of her mind?

This past Friday, a loyal reader to this blog informed me that there were rumors were swirling around the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul that 2 DFL legislators were thinking about switching from the DFL to the GOP.

At first, I thought that this type of talk is typical when margins are this close. This friend assured me this wasn't typical gossip mill fodder. This friend told me that these DFL representatives are tired of the DFL's win-at-all-costs stunts. I'd assume that this includes the Curtis Johnson fiasco in HD-40B.

Friday night on Almanac, 2023 Speaker Melissa Hortman insisted that the Minnesota Supreme Court had ruled that evening that both caucuses had 67 members. If that's true, then the Minnesota Supreme Court is utterly corrupt. The lower court ruled that Curtis Johnson didn't live in the district he applied to represent. There's no disputing that the lower court ruling was made. That means that the findings of facts can't be disputed except in rare cases.

Appellate courts rule on whether the laws were applied properly or if a law is constitutional. They aren't there to retry cases. After Speaker Demuth talked about "the special election in 40B," she then said that the DFL only had 66 members in their caucus. Ms. Hortman replied "I think tonight that the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that there are 67 members in both caucuses." The exchange happened at the 19:00 minute mark of this video:

That's am outright lie. If the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that the DFL and the GOP 67 members each in them, that'd cancel the need for a special election. I know that hasn't happened because the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that Curtis Johnson didn't live in House District 40B, which necessitated a special election. Walter Hudson poked fun at Hortman in this tweet: This video explains the Supreme Court's ruling beautifully:

It's become increasingly clear that the DFL is 'the spoiled brat party' that's interested only in intimidating the GOP. This GOP isn't interested in "singing Kumbaya"at this point. That's likely why these House DFL legislators are frustrated. That's likely why they're thinking about switching parties from DFL to GOP. As Melissa Hortman has shown, the DFL has shown that the DFL thinks that it's entitled to the majority. If the DFL is interested in getting paid, they should do their committee work. Otherwise, they should go without their salary and per diem. Period.

This BringMeTheNews article explains the ruling that Hortman spent Friday night lying about:

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Friday sided with Republicans in ruling Gov. Tim Walz prematurely ordered a Jan. 28 special election in the Roseville-area House District 40B. The writ of special election Walz issued on Dec. 27 is now quashed and the election must be canceled, the court ruled. Any ballots specifically for the now-cancelled Jan. 28 election, whether already cast or mailed or delivered to Ramsey County, must not be counted, the order states.
The special election must be rescheduled. It likely won't be held until late March. That's what happens when you don't follow the law.
