Democrats play dirty vs. Pete Hegseth?

It's getting tiresome watching people (I'm betting Democrats but who knows?) taking desperation cheap shots at Pete Hegseth, President Trump's nominee to be Secretary of Defense. While it might not be DC's Democrats, it's a definite possibility that, if it isn't, it's someone from inside the Military Industrial Complex.

Whoever it is, NRO's Rich Lowry has some advice for whoever is pitching the latest rumors against Pete Hegseth. Lowry's advice is simple. "It’s unlikely to work." Lowry explains "An ex-sister-in-law, Danielle Hegseth, has provided an affidavit maintaining that secretary of defense nominee Pete Hegseth’s second wife, Samantha Hegseth, was afraid of him as their marriage melted down."

The thing is that Samantha Hegseth, Pete's ex-wife, is pushing back, saying "First and foremost, I have not and will not comment on my marriage to Pete Hegseth. I do not have representatives speaking on my behalf, nor have I ever asked anyone to share or speak about the details of my marriage on my behalf, whether it be a reporter, a committee member, a transition team member, etc."

In other words, Danielle might not be telling the truth. This sounds a bit dishonest:

She adds that part of her reason for coming forward is “because I have been assured that making this public statement will ensure that certain Senators who are still on the fence will vote against Hegseth’s confirmation. But for that assurance I would not subject myself or others referred to in this statement to the public scrutiny this statement is likely to cause.”
As usual, Sen. Kennedy put the accusations in context:

I won't say that Danielle is lying. I'll just say that she sounds like she might have ulterior motives. This doesn't sound right. Might she be telling the truth? That's one possibility. It's just that it isn't the only possibility. As Sen. KEnnedy said, he's seen this rodeo before. The fact that she isn't willing to be cross-examined is disturbing, too. That can't be ignored.
