Convicting Alejandro Mayorkas, Dan Goldman vs. John Kennedy edition

If there's anyone who makes my blood boil more than Sen. Schumer, it's Rep. Dan Goldman, (D-NY). When I saw that he'd written this op-ed for MSNBC, I had to write a reply to his propaganda. I was surprised to see that the opening paragraph of his op-ed contained 2 truthful statements, followed by a truthful but misleading statement. It said "Democracy is under attack at home and abroad. On Saturday, the antidemocratic regime in Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones at our democratic ally, Israel, while Russia simultaneously sent the same Iranian-designed drones into Ukraine. On Monday, Donald Trump became the first former president to go to trial as a criminal defendant."

I'd just add that Goldman should remind Joe Biden that Israel is an ally and deserves to be treated that way. With Biden on Israel, it's 1 step forward, 1 stab in the back and a week of humiliation from the U.S. That isn't how allies should be treated.

The final sentence of the opening paragraph is accurate in that a crooked judge (Juan Merchan) worked with a crooked D.A. (Alvin Bragg) to concoct a charge that should've never seen the light of day.

Then there's this paragraph:

In nearly 240 years of our Constitution’s history, there have been four Senate trials for the impeachment of a president of the United States — and half of those were against former President Donald Trump. There has not been an impeachment trial of a Cabinet secretary in approximately 150 years — and that was on allegations of bribery. In fact, House Republicans have not pointed to a single impeachment in history that did not involve the abuse of official authority for personal gain — before this one.
With all due respect to Rep. Goldman, (D-NY), rewriting entire sections of immigration law without congressional approval is more than sufficient for impeaching Mayorkas. If you haven't watched Sen. John Kennedy's speech on the Senate floor, that's your viewing assignment for today:

In his speech, Sen. Kennedy said that one of the charges was the "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law, not negligence." Sen. Kennedy said that this charge was "as serious as 4 heart attacks and a stroke." Sen. Kennedy prefaced that by stating that "for months, they investigated the open, bleeding wound that is the open southern border and why it is open and why it is bleeding."

Sen. Schumer doesn't want this trial. Apparently, Rep. Goldman doesn't want it either. Sen. Kennedy explains why it's needed later in his speech. Sen. Kennedy explains it by saying "It's not about the evidence. It's not about the law. It's not about the process. It's not about, but it should be, about 250 years of precedent and history. It's about raw, gut politics. Some of my colleagues in this body don't want us to talk about the border in an election year and we all know that. You know that. I know that. Everyone watching knows that. The American people know that. They may be poor under President Biden but they aren't stupid. They can see that."

Then Sen. Kennedy finished off the Democrats by saying "Sometimes, the majority means that all of the fools are on the same side." BINGO! That's why we have a Bill of Rights. Let's be exceptionally clear about this. Alejandro Mayorkas appropriated to himself the authority to change laws that were written and passed by Congress, then signed by multiple presidents. How dare he attempt that. Secretary Mayorkas doesn't have the authority to do that any more than a president has the authority to appropriate money or set budgets.

If Rep. Goldman and the Democrats think that it's ok for a president to appropriate money or unilaterally write a new tax code, let's offer the 2 scariest words in the English language to a Democrat: President Trump. This is Professor Dershowitz's famous shoe-on-the-other-foot test. How many Democrats would be ok with President Trump getting everything he wants.
