SD-14 endorsing convention news

This past Saturday, the SD-14 Republicans held their endorsing convention. Delegates for HD-14A took little time in endorsing Rep. Bernie Perryman by acclimation. Rep. Perryman ran unopposed.

Meanwhile, longtime GOP activist Sue Ek won endorsement on the first ballot with 65% of the vote. After winning the endorsement, Ek's campaign issued this statement:

First, in the interest of full disclosure, I've known Sue Ek for more than 15 years. That means that I'm biased, though that doesn't mean I can't see things objectively. OPINION: Unlike Rep. Wolgamott, Sue Ek will represent the voters in HD-14B. Wolgamott represented (in this order) Melissa Hortman and the DFL.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:

  1. Wolgamott voted for some ultra-controversial bills during the 2023 budget session.
  2. When Wolgamott voted for the HHS omnibus bill, he voted for the repeal of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which provided legal protection infants who survived an abortion. (What type of ghoul would repeal such a protection?
  3. Wolgamott also voted for the Transgender Refuge Act, aka HF 146. HF 146 prohibits the enforcement of other states' lawful subpoenas that "interfere with an individual's right to receive gender-affirming health care.
  4. Wolgamott voted for the Blackout Bill, which is meant to halt climate change.
Wolgamott gushed about how this bill will save the planet:
"Last night, I voted YES to help our state address climate change and prepare for a carbon-free future. We just passed HF 7, to set a new standard to produce 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040."

"The last eight years globally have been the hottest on record, and Minnesota is among the top states currently seeing rapid changes to our climate. Climate change driven by fossil fuels is impacting our environment, infrastructure, and our health."

What a bunch of malarkey. There's no such thing as carbon-free electricity. The materials used to make solar panels or wind turbines don't auto-extract themselves. The machines used for mining use diesel fuel or some other fossil fuel. So much for carbon-free electricity.

Here's part of the hearing moving HF 146 through the committee:

Though he'll deny it, Rep. Wolgamott voted to strip single parents, some of whom might be going through custody fights, of their parental rights. That's beyond ghoulish.

I've known Sue Ek for 15+ years. She's a principled person who would govern by the principles listed in her victory statement. I've known of Rep. Wolgamott since 2016. He's a career politician, which means he'll do whatever the leadership team wants. Rep. Wolgamott is bought-and-paid-for by the DFL's special interest allies. The vote to repeal the Born Alive Infant Protection Act didn't represent HD-14B. They represented Tim Walz and Melissa Hortman. It's time for Wolgamott to go.
