Julia Coleman, Peggy Scott call out Heather Gustafson's PR stunt
This is the key paragraph in the article. It says "Democratic Sen. Heather Gustafson cloned Coleman’s bill and introduced it Thursday. She told us she’s in a better position to negotiate its passage through committees and a state House dominated by Democrats." Think about that a second. It's the identical bill. Only the chief author's name was changed. Sen. Gustafson just admitted that great bills submitted by Republicans are getting defeated whether it's a good bill or it's a terrible bill.
I don't want to hear another peep out of the DFL when it comes to bipartisanship. When the DFL is in the majority, bipartisanship disappears. When the DFL is in the minority, the DFL insists on bipartisanship:
It's time for Republicans to insist that bills pass on their merits. Bills passing because the chief author has a D behind their name is juvenile. I'd expect better behavior from 10-year-olds.The other questions I have for the DFL are more important.
- Why did DFL district attorneys refuse to prosecute straw gun purchases if they were gross misdemeanors?
- Why didn't the DFL take action on these crimes sooner? Are they that soft on crime and criminals?
- Why did it take the murder of 3 first responders to get the DFL's attention? Had the DFL passed Rep. Peggy Scott's bill last year, these first responders might still be alive.
- Did straw gun purchases only become bad policy after the murder of these first responders?
