The Invasion of Busybody Government?

Minnesota state government is intruding in people's lives too much. That's especially true in the last year. When I talk about limited government, I'm not just talking about limiting spending. This article highlights another way that DFL government is improperly invading our lives.

The article highlights how a family project was almost turned into a government boondoggle. The article opens by saying "For years, my daughter, who is 12, has asked to have a room in the basement. My wife finally relented, and the two of them recently gave a fresh paint job to what will be her new room on the lowest level." This is where the DFL Trifecta is intruding.

The article continues, saying "I’m relieved they got the job done quickly, because a new bill (SF 3554) proposed by the state legislature in our home state of Minnesota seeks to impose strict new regulations on who can paint, and what kind of paints can be used."

This sounds like a grifting operation. First, most licenses are built around limiting competition, which helps in raising wages or by generating revenue for government. It's also a great way to create government employees.

Isn't That Surprising?

A social media user claimed the legislation is designed to benefit Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, whose husband owns a painting company. I decided to look into the claim that Murphy’s husband is a commercial painter. According to Murphy’s own campaign website, it’s true. "Joe owns and runs a painting business," Murphy’s website says. (I reached out to Murphy’s staff to find out if she is aware of the legislation or supports it. I did not receive a response.)
I won't hint that Joe's intentions are nefarious. Erin Murphy, though, is certainly capable of playing the government grift game for the family's financial gain. Further, it's easy to picture her growing government as part of her legacy.

The government that Minnesotans are getting is often too expensive and not delivering the things that we need. Meanwhile, Democrats are shutting down things we need. Check this out:

How stupid is that? Killing jobs while making life more difficult for the average person apparently is the DFL way. All in the name of raising minimum wage. What a bunch of economic illiterates. Let's see if Uber and Lyft leave the Twin Cities. We shouldn't have to even think about that type of stupidity. Unfortunately, DFL activists have forced us to think about it.

Misplaced Priorities

Students get taught how to be activists while teachers don't teach them science, math and the necessities. Students grow up being fiscal illiterates but being expert activists.

  1. Are those the priorities you want the next generation to learn?
  2. When's the last time your DFL legislator talked about reforms that will shrink the accomplishment gap?
  3. When's the last time you hear a DFL legislator talk about giving family businesses additional incentives to grow?
I'm tired of Minnesota losing ground to Iowa and North Dakota in terms of being competitive. With Minesota's natural resources, we should be the economic powerhouse of the Upper Midwest. Why are we still in the middle-of-the-pack at best? The answer to that last question is simple: the DFL's big government policies.
